Hi ladies! I'm hoping you can help me figure this out. We live in and older house so our closets are kinda small. I use the one in our bedroom and the one in the guest room which is right across the hall. If you do something similar to this, what do you store in each? Is there any separation of clothes (i.e.; going out/work/weekend/etc)? I store all my out of season clothing in the basement. I'm thinking of attempting a work/weekend separation but so many of my clothes work for both I'm not sure if that's the best way.
Yep, I have to do the same thing. My guest bedroom closet is stuff I don't wear often - formal dresses, cocktail dresses, suits. I also keep my handbags in that closet, along with things like summer floppy hats and various accessories like all of my belts and scarves (hung on hangers). Stuff that I wear regularly is in my bedroom - pencil skirts, business casual dresses, weekend dresses and skirts, etc.
DirtySouth that's kinda the idea I'm going for. I tried something similar when we moved in (this past January), but I found myself still running back and forth between closets in the morning.
Another thought would be to pre-select outfits and keep those in the main closet with accessories and shoes, and keep the bulk of my stuff in the guest room. I'm hoping whatever I do is a temporary measure since DH seems to think we can blow out the wall and make the master closet a walk-in. I hope so, I miss the walk in we had in our apartment. That was definitely one of the sacrifices I made for home ownership.
We have a walk-in closet in our master bedroom, DH and I each have half. In there I store my heavy winter sweaters folded on a shelf. I also have blazers, pants, long sleeve shirts (work and casual), and going out tops (think sequins!). I also have some shoes and boots in there but those are not well organized. In our guest room I store skirts, dresses(formal, work and casual), beach coverups, summer hats, capris. Jeans are folded on a shelf. Handbags are in a container on a shelf. Scarves and belts are on their own specific holders hanging up. I also have a dresser in the guest room. The dresser contains tee shirts, shorts, tank tops, socks and undergarments. I always get dressed in our guestroom on weekdays because I get up in the wee hours of the morning to go to work. This way I don't wake up DH in our bedroom. In the summer it works great since I mostly wear dresses and skirts and that stuff's already in the guestroom. In the fall/winter I have to pre-plan outfits better and try to lay them out the night before so I'm not rummaging through the master bedroom closet early in the morning and waking DH up.
The closet in my bedroom has mainly work clothes - pants, tops, sweaters, etc. Jeans and some nicer tanks I don't wear to work are all in this closet. I also have purses on a shelf and shoes - tennis shoes, wedges, flats, heels.
The closet in the spare bedroom has workout clothes, sweatshirts, t shirts, VS sweats, and dresses. Shoes in this closet are boots, booties- so mainly winter shoes, plus I have one of those things that hangs down like a sweater organizer that has all my flip flops/sandals.
I usually don't mind having 2 closets since I don't get into the spare one each day and actually like how everything is set up. I do look forward to the day we move and I no longer have this issue though.
I have two small closets now. One is exclusively for dresses, the other is for the rest of my clothes that need to be hung, as well as my bags and jewelry.
When I had a house, I had two big closets. One for all my clothes and one for shoes and accessories.

I am ashamed to admit this. I store clean clothes I've been too lazy to put away in one and things I've hung up (and wear infrequently) in the main closet space.
I might resort to this if we put our two girls in one room this winter and flip flip with DD. If so, out of season clothes will go in the spare closet so DH can have half of the bedroom closet *sob*.
