I am in the ER (UPDATED p. 3 toward bottom)

With DVT (blood clot) in my leg. The one with the broken ankle. Apparently the reduced mobility plus recent delivery put me at risk for this. The diagnosis is done, I'm just waiting to see the hematologist to figure out my treatment. The good news is that the clot is still below my knee, so the risk of it breaking off and causing complications is low. The bad news is that I may have to give myself shots of Lovenox for a few months. Ugh.

H brought me to the ER, and we left M at home with my mom and a bottle of pumped milk. (I wasn't about to bring an unvaccinated newborn into the ER waiting room!) I got 3 oz. of milk this morning (my first time pumping), and my mom said he took the bottle with no problem. Phew. I felt really bad leaving him alone with my mom and not knowing how he would react to the bottle. Now if I could just quit landing myself in the ER...sigh.

I also ended up in the ER & was admitted overnight when DS2 was 3 weeks old. We had family in town for the planned baptism, so they stayed with our boys. I left some pumped milk & he did fine, but sucked it all down & needed more. They gave him some of the sample formula from the hospital & I think I pumped a little more at the hospital. It really sucked, but he did well (much better than me, actually!).

I hope you heal soon so you can put this all behind you!

The hospital should be able to bring you a pump if you request such. I would ask ASAP in case you're there longer than expected.

Glad you went in! That happened to my SIL right after delivery too; I didn't realize before that that delivery increased your risk.

And now you have the first bottle out of the way. :-)

Yeeeeeeesh. Yes, ask for a pump to be brought to you. If theyhave babies in the hospital, they should have those tiny 4oz (3oz?) bottles in the sterile packs they can bring you.

Good question, and I felt kind of foolish coming in because I so badly wanted to believe that it was nothing. While I was sleeping on Sunday night, I noticed that my left calf was really sore. Since I hadn't been active at all and can only bear a small amount of weight on that leg, I was suspicious. I asked H, a cardiology fellow, what he thought. He was concerned and felt my leg for clots. (I don't think this is a sure fire diagnostic method, just a quick and dirty check.) he didn't feel anything, and since I didn't have other DVT symptoms like swelling or discoloration, we didn't pursue it. But the pain didn't go away. When I woke up this morning, the calf pain was still there but it also felt like the back of my knee was being squeezed. This freaked me out, and H and I decided that I needed to get it checked out. We got up a little after 6, I pumped, and we came to the ER. 7 am is a good time to be in the ER...within an hour I had blood drawn and was getting the calf ultrasound for DVT diagnosis. Now I'm just waiting to see the hematologist to get her recommendation for treatment.

Apparently I am pretty in touch with my health problems, because all three times I've been to the ER, my self diagnosis has been correct. (Appendicitis, broken ankle, DVT.) As much as I'd prefer to be proven wrong...sigh.

I'm at the hospital with no OB services. You know, the one with the Ebola patients. Lol

We are 5 min from home, and we told the hematology PA about the situation. He promised that the MD is on her way, then I can go home. I told my mom to call me if M gets fussy!
