I think a few other states have their fairs about this same time. MN State Fair is known for all of its foods on a stick. It is very hard to get a booth at the fair unless you come up with a new/inventive food. Here's a list of the new foods this year
We're planning to go once by ourselves and once where we'll bring W.
Its hard to narrow it down to what my favorite fair food is, but I'd have to say the deep fried candy bar on a stick. I know that it is not good for you.... but damn, is it good! I do like the deep fried pickles (as do a few other people on the board!) but, I can get those at a few bars around town.

We have a county fair and we will probably go just once. It gets pretty packed. We go strictly to pig out on food. Bring on the funnel cakes, chili cheese fries, and corn dogs!
Have fun! We did the Iowa fair last week and it was a blast. I love the corn dogs, funnel cakes, and lemonade. This time I got a chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick and it was awesome--what Caleb let me have, at least.

I also always wonder if other the state fair is as huge as it is here.
For reference, during the MN State Fair, all the local news outlets and radio stations broadcast live during the entire fair. EVERYONE goes. They drive across the state to attend.
Some people's entire business is a state fair food stand. They make that much money in the two weeks or so that it goes.

The Big E (New England state fair) is in a few weeks, we go every year!! As long as we get there early, we never have an issue with traffic or parking. I can almost taste the fried scallops, lobster rolls and the freshly baked donuts. Drool
I really want to do the big E this year; it's been a few years since I've gone. We will also go to a more local county fair which Olivia enjoyed last year.
Fun fact: I caught a pig in a pig scramble in Maine's largest fair when I was a kid. Tackled the thing down, tossed it in a burlap sack, and tied it up. I've got a little country in me

I can't wait for the Big E! We go really early to beat the crowds. I think we are going to be bad Jews and go on Rosh Hashana because it is a Thursday and we all have off from work.
We were going to go to the NY state fair tomorrow, but its a 3 hour drive and its supposed to rain. The drive is just too long to risk being rained out. Boo

Come on Saturday!
Spending time with family on the weekend since I'm leaving on Monday. Maybe we'll try Friday, but it will probably be packed.
We are going to ours this weekend. I have never been. Any recs artgal84?
I'm going Saturday too! It is so fun, I can't believe you've never been! There is a new exhibit with little tractors for the kids to ride, the butter sculpture is awesome, the building with the bunnies is Lily's favorite, the 4H building has little chicks they can hold and pet, there are lots of free demos, the home and garden building has air conditioning.
The best food is the Dinousaur BBQ tent, pizza frite (from the purple building near the lottery booth), tully tenders, the grilled corn on the cob, the entire dairy building (haha), and the fried cheese curds!

I really need to get started planning out what my "must haves" are for the fair. We will have both of us and my parents to handle the kids, but there are some things I need to make sure we get in case the kids have a melt down and we need to leave earlier than planned. We will end the day as always with a bucket of cookies and milk. Yum!
They take a whole potato and cut it on this machine into really thin slices that are all kind of connected and then fry it. So it's like a giant plate of thin, crispy chip-like fries and you can put salt, katchup or vinigar on them. It's so good! It's burning hot when you get it and you have to wait to eat it, very hard, haha.
