thom is there a Y nearby? They almost always have adult swim lessons of some kind.
al320 -- there's a Y about 30 miles in either direction from me. I'm not unwilling to go there, but it does give me more pause than if I could go 5-10 miles to town. I've been thinking & looking at logistics of trying to swim even for occasional cross training for awhile, and it just involves a lot of driving. (Our local high school has no pool or swim team either.)
ETA: I guess I'm trying to weigh how much I want to do this with the cost, logistics, and how it balances with work and family. For now maybe I should just be content that H bikes with me occasionally?
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS RECAP SINCE SUNDAY! congratulations, I am SO proud of you! Very inspirational--I really really REALLY want to do an irongirl tri as my fist tri, but they do not come up north at all, it looks like Jersey is as close as it gets. I am so glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the great recap!
shauni27, not sure if Syracuse NY is any better for you distance-wise, but I did that one a few weeks ago and it was a wonderful experience. Registration sold out within 3 hours, this year it opened on January 1st so I had to drag myself out of bed on new years morning.

I think the 'cuze is like 8 hours away...
ETA: it is 5.5 hours. Too much for me. I'm pure lazy.

For the record, it was 5 hours from my door to this race
shauni27- I'm playing devil's advocate here: IG requires you to pick up your packet and rack the bike by 5pm the day before the race. So.....long weekend trip! Leave your house Saturday morning, race on Sunday and take the scenic route back home. Just sayin' ;-)
