All the amazing Maine advice you gave me and all the plans I made have gone up in smoke. My mom has a terrible stomach/respiratory flu and can't travel, and we were scheduled to leave tomorrow. The good news is we were flying Southwest so even though we'd already checked in (she got sick right after), they gave us the full credit for a future trip. The bad news is that two of the B&Bs are charging us, so we're out $405. My poor mom feels so bad about having to cancel, she burst into tears on the phone with me. We were so excited for Maine. Our hope is that she recovers fully by the weekend and we can go to Mackinac Island in Michigan for a few days instead.
This virus is really nasty. It lasts five days according to all of her coworkers who had it first and involves full body aches, fever, constant bathroom trips...I hope she feels better soon. And I hope this isn't a sign of a bad flu season to come in this area! We know about 20 people who have had it.
Oh no. What a crappy thing to happen! Hopefully your mom is on the mend. Mackinac Island is lovely. Have lunch on the back porch at the Chippewa Hotel overlooking the harbor and eat some fudge from Ryba's.

That sucks I hope your mom is feeling better by the weekend. Just because she feels bad doesn't me you don't get to feel disappointed AND sorry for her though.
