I think the whole "she's going to have to spell her name all the time" argument isn't going to hold much water in this generation. EVERY child is going to have to spell his/her name all the time because you can no longer assume you know how to spell a name! Both of my boys have pretty common, familiar, easily spelled names (with no reasonable alternatives), yet I'm frequently asked how we spell it!

My daughters are Bianca and Juliana. People ask me frequently "how do you spell that" and I want so badly to reply "the way it's supposed to be spelled".
But, I'm listed as Jeniffer at one store I shop at. Are you kidding me? NO. That's not how anyone spells Jennifer.

My cousin wrote me a letter when we were kids and spelled my name Jesika. WHUT.
Oh my. H and I had an argument about the name Elizabeth the other day. He claimed it was one of those 'weird' names with a ton of ways to spell it. I was all like 'no, no it isn't'.
I HATE it when people spell a "normal" name differently. The person saddled with the name will always have to correct others in the spelling of it.
That reminds me of a story a maternity ward nurse told me. She said when people filled out the paperwork for their newborns she would comment on the names if they were spelled differently. Many times she said the people had NO CLUE how the name was spelled and just sounded it out. Lots of times they would change it when she told them that the common way was different than what they had put down on paper.

I didn't know there was another way to spell Melissa. I have to spell my first name ALL the time. People have typed in Millissa, Mellisa, Melisa, Mellysa (I blame that one on this stupid "y" trend), etc.
I thought it was a relatively common girl's name! I had 3 other Melissa's in my graduating class!

at my starbucks, they cannot spell Allison. They spell it Alycin. every time. THAT'S NOT EVEN A NAME.
I get everything but Gina at Starbucks - Jeana, Geanea, etc. I had lunch at a pizza place called "Gina's Pizza" and when I got my receipt it read "Geena", lol wut.

Do you watch Teen Mom? There's a dad on there named Darl. It's pronounced Darrel. LOL!
