Hi all, hope you can recognize me with the avatar. Time for a change. I'll have to explain why later on but I have a daycare question.
S has only been to daycare one day and already she's sick, go figure. Tomorrow would be her second day but she's got a real bad runny and stuffy nose. No fever. The daycare booklet says they can come as long as they aren't throwing up and don't have a fever. But she sounds do horrible! Would you take your kid like this?
Our children are at a big center and it seems like they always have runny noses. As long as there's no fever, we send them, unless they're really miserable (won't sleep, extremely fussy or bad cough).
I would send her. If you are really worried, tell her teacher that she can call you if she seems really miserable. I often do that and have only been called once . Usually once kids get there and get going, they feel ok. I also think if the teachers know the child is under the weather, they give them sine extra tlc/snuggles.
I would still send her. Noah was sick on and off for the first few months of daycare and if I kept him home for a runny nose (if he seemed fine otherwise) then I would have never worked.

Yup, I only keep him home if he seems really miserable and I think he just needs a lay-on-the-couch day. If he's acting close to normal and just has a runny nose I take him.
Like others have said, runny nose is fine to send them to DC. Be prepared for some sicknesses the first year though. W was sick quite a few times the first 6-9mos at DC, but then hasn't been sick all that much since. (I'm pretty sure he had a cold/runny nose within a week or so of starting initially too!)
