According to this my county has two ATV's (we have lots of county parks, I'm down with this as a reasonable acquisition), a lot of office equipment, some parks and recs stuff, binoculars and some cameras, some A/C units, a W/D set and....4 machine guns?
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
OMG, I just realized that was the first of 20 pages. Uhhhh...so seriously - is this data for real?
If so we also have some medical equipment (I'm assuming for EMTs? why would cops need a laryngoscope and an IV pump?) 4 pages of 40 cal glocks, 3 pages of rifles, a dozen 12 gauge riot shotguns (I'm assuming these are the rubber bullet type), another couple of pages of sights, and one armored truck.
also - this makes me go hmmmm: No Item Name Provided 4 Each $6,896.49 11/16/2012 um, ok?

The NYPD must keep their purchases top secret because almost nothing is coming up. Yeah, right. I'm suuuuuuuuure the NYPD doesn't have military equipment. Nothing ever happened in New York City that wouldn't warrant military equipment...
I did check the county just north of NYC that I grew up in and their list is VERY detailed. They got a fancy self-propelled vacuum cleaner. And then there are things like life rafts - is that really considered "military equipment"?

Considering that my county also has stuff like random bedsheets and office desks and a washer and dryer listed I'm assuming it's stuff that was surplused out when military does stuff like close or downsize bases or change standards. and considering our location - I guess it's not surprising that we'd have a lot of the really mundane shit?
Not that it's like MILITARY GEAR, so much as gear formerly owned by the military.
What happened in 2006 that there was such an offloading of rifles? (I'm checking another county that I know bought a tank and saw the same date on the rifles as mine.)
this is fascinating and I really want to know if it's legit data.
I picked a random county out in the bumblefuck section of western MD and they only have a handful of normal rifles. That's comforting.
I'm looking at Baltimore City right now and among a lot of camera equipment, a bunch of normal rifles, some glocks and a shitton of riot shotguns - they have an arctic kit? What the hell is in an arctic kit and why would Baltimore need one? somebody watched the Day after Tomorrow one too many times. No vehicles though, or machine guns. So that's good to know.
Baltimore county just has several pages of rifles and that's it.
Prince George's County (majority black) has a huge array of non-scary stuff like recumbent bikes, a military Roomba (sweeper, self propelled), 5 pairs of pants (EXTREME COLD WEATHER). But also what I think are two bomb robots of different models, 10 pages of rifles, 20 trucks of assorted types, and something called, "ONLY COMPLETE COMBAT/ASSAULT/TACTICAL WHEELED VEHICLE" 18 pages total.
Montgomery County (majority white, next door to prince George's) has a bizarre list of stuff that I can't even figure out what half of it is. RING ASSEMBLY,GIMBA? But it's only 2 pages.
ETA: the strangest part of going through all my adjoining jurisdictions is the knowledge that we have the most stuff out of any of them. wth? I mean - our mall did have a shooter situation, but besides that it's pretty damn quiet around here.
The city "only" has 6 pages worth of stuff which is surprising. They have a hell of a lot of glocks, rifles, and shot guns. They also have a lot of camera equipment and scopes.
I know we have at least one pretty serious tank type vehicle because I've seen it at Dunkin Donuts. It wasn't on the list.
Mine is only pulling up some rifles from 2006 and 2008. I know there's more than that, our SWAT team was fully outfitted sometime between 2006 and now. I live in a major city.

did a branch of the service spec a new standard rifle that year? is that public info?

our was all rifles, except for a dump truck
and whatever "artillery shop equipment sets" are. we have 2 @ $40k ea. I'm thinking gunsmithing and cleaning equipment, anything in an artillery shop that isn't a weapon.
my hometown county got a lot more stuff, but nothing "military" mostly desks, computers, suv's, atv's, snowmobiles, canoes, electrical wire, office chairs, winches, and rifles. Biggest ticket item was an aircraft sprayer/deicer @ $400k

I saw that too and made the ^o) face. I also am curious why we need 650 soft sided scope bags.
WTF do we need a helicopter and tanks? I live in small town USA.
to look for pot fields
or at least that was the conscientious the other day when I was out the the sticks and there was a slow moving helicopter
also good for rescue efforts in the woods/mountains. it doesn't say which department in the county bought it, local police, sheriff, inland fisheries and wildlife/game wardens, state police...
I'm actually surprised to not see any tank purchases. There is one utility truck, but it's mostly rifles, bandoleers, and nightvision goggles and scopes.

because 650 officers need to protect their scopes...
no, lets face it, scopes don't go on and off a gun, too much work to re-sight it in. Unless they are for spotting scopes. Then you need something to put them in.

not sure about the good use for tanks.
I guess I was picturing a military helicopter with weapons and such, but you're right it could be just a regular one. It doesn't give any details - just says helicopter.
My old county has one mine resistant vehicle, one grenade launcher, two 12 gage riot type shotguns, and a life raft.
The new county merely has a grenade launcher, some rifles, and some pistols. I'm assuming that's because my old county will come out there if they need to.
We live within 45 minutes of two military bases and at least three national guard armories. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with anything.

I just looked at it again, and there is actually a utility vehicle listed. I wonder if that's what you saw at dunkin? Or if it was something like this:
it could have just been a random person. They auction stuff off to civilians all the time. A house in my neighborhood has one in their driveway.
