ETA: We are asking questions? Well I am going to my Ole Faithful " Do you have any Black friends or will we be it?"
Yes, not a lot (3), but I hope to make more!
FWIW, I am Korean and have one Korean friend. LOL
You know this is my joke stemming from a thread where all these people on here admitted having no Black friends, LOL.
OK do you watch Judy Joo on Korean Made Simple??? I LOVE food so I am all into Cooking shows and she is my new favorite ever since origami moved to Korea. Ask her, I have already made eating plans for when I visit!!

LOL! TBH, I don't have a ton of friends, but I love the ones I do have and look forward to making new friends, too.
I don't watch cooking shows, so I'm not familiar with her. I will try to watch some episodes. My cooking skills are truly sad and I need help in that area! Have you made any of her recipes yet and have any recs?

@gracechen are you into Korean makeup brands? If so please post what you like. I'm trying to learn more about it.
ETA: and welcome!!!
Hi and thank you!
Actually, I have returned to Korean skincare products in recent months and LOVE practically everything I've tried (Innisfree, Benton and Missha.) I've been a bit slower getting into the makeup, but I'm so jealous that you are IN Korea and have access to everything!! I've been ordering things online from stores based in Korea and it takes about 3 wks to get my stuff.
Are you looking for anything specific? One thing that I've loved is this pen eyeliner from a brand called Clio, it's Clio Kill Black pen liner. It gives the darkest and sharpest black line, just amazing! The felt tip is also very sturdy and doesn't fray out crazy fast like I've seen in other brands I've tried.
OH! If you're looking for foundation, I LOVE cushion compacts. I have one from Etude House and another from Laneige (they sell Laneige at Target here now!) They're so easy to apply and I'm pretty sure every cosmetics brand over there offers one. The only downside to these is that the color selection is very limited since most Koreans over there are quite pale.
Are you in Seoul? I've read so much about the shopping district, Myeongdong, where all the cosmetic stores are. OMG, pretty sure that would be my version of heaven. lol
How long have you been there? I would love to hear about your experience living there.
thank you! I will check that out. I read about the Clio liner on a blog and am meaning to get it but I keep forgetting. I'm definitely interested in foundation and maybe eye shadow colors too. I brought a metric ton of face wash with me when I moved so I feel like I should use it up but if there are other skin care prods like moisturizer and masks or something I'd try all that.
Yes I'm in Seoul. I've been here about 1.5 months. Have you been there? I went to myepngdong for a play but didn't get a chance to shop yet. It was packed there! Missha and Innisfree are everywhere. Aritaum (sp?) too. You don't even have to leave the subway to get to those stores! I read on some random website you can do a makeup "tour" and try a bunch of stuff but that was north of seoul so I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that. As far as living here, it's really nice. The people are very friendly and helpful. There is a ton of stuff to see and do. I've never lived in a big city like this so it's an adjustment. Not being able to read websites is the biggest challenge but I think that will get easier when I meet people and don't have to rely so much on the Internet.

I was born in Seoul, but came to the U.S. when I was 5 and haven't gone back. I've love to go back for a visit. Are you from the U.S.? I'm glad that you're liking it there so far, but I'm sure it is a huge adjustment.
I love the idea of a makeup tour! You will have to let me know how that is if you end up checking it out.
I tried a couple Missha BB creams recently and wasn't blown away. It's hard to get a good shade match. I do like their First Treatment Essence. It is their version of SK II's Facial Treatment Essence. I've tried both, but prefer the Missha. Plus, the Missha is 1/3 of the price! The SKII was ok, but I didn't feel like it was doing anything. The Missha FTE made my skin softer and a tiny bit brighter. That's the goal of pretty much all the Korean skincare brands, to make your skin brighter. When it says "whitening" or "brightening" it's not for any bleaching effect and won't lighten your face. It's supposed to even out your skintone and lighten the dark or blotchy areas.
Innisfree is a popular brand and they are known for having a focus on nature-based ingredients. I use their eye makeup remover (Apple Juicy) and their Olive Oil cleansing oil, and I love them both, esp the olive cleansing oil. They are pretty heavily fragranced, though and I've noticed that with a lot of Korean products. Just thought I'd mention in case you are sensitive to fragrance.
Let me know once you try a few things. I'd love to read about them. Korea has so many cool, new cosmetic products. I wish that I could make a trip just to shop, lol!
thank you again! I'm so glad you know all about this! I will definitely check out that blog. My skin has blotchy issues and I'm fine with fragrances so I'm excited to try all this stuff. I'll let you know how it goes!
And yup I'm from the US. Supposed to be in Seoul 3-5 yrs.

origami, have you had any issues finding cosmetics without bleaching agents? I feel like I have problems buying skincare stuff and cosmetics here because EVERYTHING is whitening. Even like deodorant, shaving cream, body wash, everything. I wanted to buy a mask recently and only one thing in the store was not whitening.

I haven't looked at much skin care stuff yet but I will let you know if I find some without it. I've only looked at eye makeup remover so far. The whitening thing does seem huge here though. I got a facial today that was all about the whitening in the description and that was the only kind they had.
Thanks for sharing the recipe. It looks kind of fancy/hard, but you said it's easy so I will give it a try soon. I am pretty beginner level at cooking. My knowledge is one step above boiling or frying eggs. Feel sorry for my husband and children, lol!
Ha!! You seriously only slice ginger put it in a steamer pour in some mirin place the fish ontop and let it cook. The hardest part is slicing the Zucchini but after that you just cook it in sauce. Super easy I promise!!
