What facts? The facts that you made up? When you decided everyone on the bus was going to beat this snatchdragon's son to death, then kick him off the bus to be made fun of by non-violent, normal kids?
Again, I didn't say EVERYONE on the bus but most of you want to ignore the fact that any violent kids could be on that bus. My son was incredibly violent during his episodes. And I wouldn't want my other son to be subjected to that with any regularity if it could be avoided. This lady might be a horrible, intolerant person, I don't know. I'm not, I have been all around this issue with kids in special Ed, normal classes and middle school. I am speaking from a place of experience and knowledge. And most kids don't make fun of truly disabled kids, but they would very likely make fun of a non-disabled kid riding the SN bus.
Honestly, if there was a child that violent on the bus, they would have an aide. This would be for the safety of the driver as well as the other passengers. I firmly believe she should be more concerned about violence from the "normal" kids on the unsupervised buses. When was the last time you heard about a child with special needs beating down a fellow bus rider?
Her actions (or what she hopes will happen) perpetuate the differentness of SN kids, not the fucking bus. The bus only has meaning if we give it meaning. Otherwise it is just a fucking bus. As a society we need to start sticking up for the kids on those buses rather than protecting our little precious ones. Chances are those SN kids will suffer even greater injustices in life than being made fun of for being on that bus.

Truthfully, I would feel like it was a good opportunity for her to have some proximity to kids she might not otherwise have - and that she could learn something. I think it would be a great way for her to internalize that just because some folks have different teachers and have school experiences different than she has, they are students who need a ride home just like she does.
I bet this lady is hacked that her kid won't be on the "cool bus" for all the shenanigans. Idiot.
I say 'mo better' if I can get my kid away from that shit at the start and end of her schoolday.

Nope, I would've been offended as hell. The special needs bus is not filled with animals, and as a mother of a child who rides that particular bus, I think it's gross that she would react this way. Does she think her kid is going to catch a case of the "specials?" It isn't contagious. Growing up to be a dick, though...that could be communicable.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
lyssbobiss, Command, B613, your screen name made me think that proboards farted or something, i'm all 'how can 3 people be the last one person to post?" lol.
Oops! I changed it during the whole Megan Heimer thing and never changed it back.

my3boyz, you are pretty ridiculous right now, place of experience or not.
First of all, a kid who was that emotionally disturbed would VERY likely have an aide with him. I work in a magnet district for special education; we bus a ton of kids in. It would be a safety and insurance liability to leave kids with such severe needs unattended. One of the real reasons special ed and mainstream aren't always grouped together is that there have been a bunch of instances of "regular ed" kids bullying nonverbal special ed kids and no one can do anything because they don't know.
And riding the bus is to the detriment of her kid? How, exactly? Because he can't bullshit with friends for twenty minutes? What happened to the thousands of kids whose parents picked them up every day? OMG, how did they ever manage to become functioning members of society?!
If it were truly a situation where my kid was terrorized, of course I'd expect an exception to be made. This is not that kind of situation, from what we've heard.

MmmmK. Let me also speak from knowledge and experience then. I worked in SpEd for 11 years. And in all those years, in several different schools (and districts) would you like to know how many student-on-student attacks there were on the special transportation buses? NONE. Right not one. Don't get me wrong, I did have a student get written up for throwing his shoes twice. But he threw them into the aisle. And an aide was right there to make sure that no one got hurt. Would you like to know how many altercations there were on the "regular" buses just last school year at my school? 11. More than one a month. Personally I'd take my chances on the "short" bus.

Also, at my school, the children who can't ride the regular bus due to behavior go on the small bus. If they can't handle the small bus, for whatever reason, they are driven alone in a van. We don't put any students a risk.
I'd like to think I wouldn't be upset. It's a free ride, so take it.
But when I was in HS about 20 years ago (omg) I do recall people mocking the sped short bus. I hope people have become more inclusive and less mean, but I don't know for sure. We don't have school busses in my city so I don't know if they still make fun of it anymore.
I totally get this perspective. The "short bus" was something people made fun of when I was a kid too (I think we are probably around the same age). I just think going to the superintendent of schools is off the chain crazy for something of this magnitude. Now, if he really was being bullied or something, that would be another story.
It's insane to go to the superintendent, especially after she brought it up to someone else and they basically laughed her away. That should've given her the hint she's an asshole.
Is this a small town or what? I just can't imagine her thinking the superintendent has either nothing better to do than deal with her nonsense, or that he/she will rearrange the entire pick up schedule and fleet, all to accommodate her fear of the unknown?

Fucking nut.
That's the funny thing, we are in a rather large district on Long Island (8 elem/ 2 middle schools/ 2 high schools) This is not a rural area or anything. She can't drive her son because she works, and she's too cheap to pay for before/after care (not that she should anyway with a 13 year old kid). She's being crazy IMO.

Now that I've read the whole thread, anecdote time:
Dh ride the "regular" school bus in middle and high school and the bus driver sold them all pot, so nothing to say the "regular" but will be any better.
Granted this was 25+ years ago so I hope to hell this doesn't go on anymore, but I don't know for sure. Plus like I've said my city doesn't have school busses, but I've lived before where they have them and I've seen the kids acting up and being all wild after school. So who's to say her son won't be hurt or teased etc on the long bus?
