I am down in San Diego tonight through next Friday for a work trip with some PTO tacked on at the end I have dinners open all week except Sunday and need some recs. I am staying in the gaslamp district but do have a car. Would prefer walking distance though:)
I want to try a bunch of things since I will be in town a while. No real budget, it's all on the corporate card for the most part. I get $75 for dinner but I am fine going over and paying OOP for a good dinner.
Sushi ota was the best sushi I've ever had. They do require a reservation because of it's popularity. It's driving distance from you, in a shopping center with a planned parenthood.

C Level at Island Prime. Same food quality but the prices are cheaper and you can sit out on the patio and enjoy the weather.
Slaters 50/50 @ Liberty Station
Stone Brewery- They have 2 restaurant locations: Liberty Station and Escondido. If you are into beer you may want to make the short drive up the 15 to the Escondido location. They have a gorgeous garden and you can take a tour of the brewery. There is also Stone Farms that you can visit; they typically have a few beers on tap plus they have been doing wood fired pizzas
Bencotto- its east coast italian in Little Italy. One thing to note about Little Italy is that most of the restaurants close by 10pm even on weekends.
El Agave in Old Town. This is Mexico City style mexican; definitely not a taco joint
Las Cuatro Milpas in Barrio Logan. Open open Mon-Sat for breakfast and lunch. No frills taco shop. Cash only. There is always a line so dont be discouraged if you show up and the line is down the block
Extraordinary Desserts- 2 locations: Little Italy and Hillcrest. The Little Italy location is larger and has a full menu. Lots of decadent desserts plus salads, soups, sandwiches and other munchies. They do a European style brunch/buffet on Sunday.
Hash House A Go Go in Hillcrest- huge portions of midwestern favorites with a twist. Great for breakfast; they do take reservations for dinner and breakfast on Saturday. Come hungry!
Fig Tree Cafe- 3 locations: Hillcrest, PB and Liberty Station. Go for breakfast
Kous Kous in Hillcrest. Morrocan food if you want something a bit different
Manna BBQ in Kearny Mesa. All you can eat Korean BBQ. Always packed at night. Its about $22 a person for their cheapest meatfeast. If you are a carnivore its definitely worth the money
Sublime Ale House in San Marcos. About 40 minutes north of downtown SD. A good option if you plan on checking out the Wild Animal Park in Escondido or if you drive up to Temecula to visit wine country. They offer a create your own Mac and Cheese.
