So, to recap:
- granite guy was an idiot and didn't template the backsplash riser between the sink countertop and the higher "bar" countertop - the piece he cut from my slab was a good half-inch too short and looked horrible - he said he would "color-match" since there wasn't enough left on my slab to cut a new one, but after waiting another week his guys showed up with something that didn't match at all - I decided to replace with tile, and told granite guy he needed to have someone tile it for me or refund money in compensation - He tried to say he'd charge $200 to tile it, I told him he owed me more than that for the granite I didn't get thanks to his f-up - He responded very professionally with lots of "lol"s, but we finally agreed that his tile guy would do it for $100 this weekend
So, Friday he said "this weekend." Saturday he said "Sunday." Today I text him and he texts back, "They're not there yet???" He says he'll call them. He calls me back and says, "They went drinking last night and aren't feeling good enough to come today." He says they're coming tomorrow afternoon. Ugh, I should probably just cut my losses and hire someone else, but I don't know that anyone will come to install less than 36 tiles. I guess I'll see what happens tomorrow and go from there.
Here's the part I'm talking about, with just drywall for now:
MONDAY NIGHT UPDATE:
So, the guys showed up at like 7 -- one of the granite stooges who was here before, and another guy. They took one look, and were like, "Where's the backsplash?" I showed them this, and they were like, "No, where's the BACKSPLASH?" I said, "You mean the tile?" They were all, "What now?" Turns out, George the Granite Guy never told them that they were coming to do tile. They thought they were coming to put in a granite backsplash, so all they brought was clear caulk. They didn't bring anything to do tile with. The granite stooge I don't think knows anything about tiling, but other guy who came along seemed to really know tile, he said he used to work for the Daltile store. Supposedly they're coming back tomorrow night to do it. I have serious doubts, but at this point I'm going to see how this plays out before hiring someone else and just watch them like a hawk. They were all disgruntled that they drove an hour and didn't know they were coming to install tile, I was like, "Yeah, this is fun for me too. Take it up with George."
I assume you've already paid him for the granite? I hope he follows through.
Yeah, it was stupid of me to pay him for the whole thing, but he did bring all the big countertops, and I didn't really think about holding some back until later. He works with my contractor a lot, so hopefully he is a bit motivated to make me happy.

Contractors suck. Ours flooded our basement three times due to various screw ups, but even though it was a major PITA for us to deal with, at least he made it right each time.
I hope the tile guy shows up soon! FWIW, I love the granite you chose. :-)
Is it too late to put a stop on the check? Threaten that, I bet he shows in 5.
Yeah, I wrote the check almost two weeks ago at this point. I was just kidding about that. I have looked up that he's on Angie's List, though, so a scathing review will follow once/if this is all resolved.

OMG, George the Granite Guy may very well be the stupidest man alive. He said his guys would be here today (Tuesday) between 5:30 and 6. It's past 6:30, so I just texted him, "Hey are your guys still coming today?" He texted me back, "Yes, are they there yet?" Um, WHY THE FUCK would I be asking you if they are still coming if they are here? What possible answer is he expecting? "Oh, yeah, they're here, I was just wondering if they were coming because their actual presence was not a significant enough clue to determine their intentions on the matter."
