I hate vegetable gardens because they look like hell. Plus they're a lot of work. But mostly because every one I ever see looks like hell.
Ugly ugly ugly.
That's my garden confession. Edible gardens look hideous.
Now I know you have a gardening confession. Like why you haven't done squat outside all year, everything you have bought is dead, and all you have are weeds....

We haven't picked a tomato in weeks. I know there are several out there rotting on the vines, but we have to undo the deer netting to get to them, and I just don't want to. Next year, we're not going to plant ANY veggies, I don't think.

As much as I LOVE fresh tomatoes, I never grow them, because a tomato plant is one of the ugliest effing plants imaginable. I'd rather pay someone for fresh tomatoes.
My confession is that we started veggie delivery just so we didn't have to have a garden but could get heirloom veg. We are also too lazy to go to the farmers market.
For a little while, I thought my tomatoes actually looked pretty good this year! i.e., not too much ugly yellow dead mess on the bottoms. This was earlier this month:
but of course since then things have gone downhill. Which is part of why they always get planted along the garage, behind the trash cans. Sunny spot, little visibility. I agree they are generally fug, but hiding them works for me

I have been neglecting my veggie garden this year. I rent a community plot, because my yard is so shady, but between school, work, and our house reno stuff it's low on my priority list. In the past few weeks I've been making more of an effort, but all that survived was the zucchini, jalapenos, tomatoes, and butternut squash. Edamame, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, and bell peppers were all eaten/dead. I'm probably not going to rent it again next summer.
I think vegetable gardens are great, and I get all excited every spring and plant tomatoes and herbs. But by the end of July I am pretty much over it and start letting it go. I HATE being outside when it is hot and humid so the plants don't get watered and tended to like they should.

We moved into our house in May and haven't touched the yard except to cut the grass and pull the most offensive weeds (and only that in the front...the beds in the backyard are a hot mess and I don't GAF). It doesn't look atrocious or anything, but I can't wait for it to really be nice.

I agree! I love the idea of having tomatoes but then I look at my neighbor's messes (and crazy contraptions to keep out pests) and decide that I'll stick with my flowers! I make myself feel better with justifications of supporting local farmers at the market.

Yes, this looks good *FOR TOMATOES*. LOL
But it's still a row of tomatoes on sticks and there is still no way I would do this in place of ornamentals. I'd rather have shady trees, fluffy shrubs, showy foliage, and oceans of flowers.

I couldn't agree more. Unless the vegetable garden is tucked away, I think they are in general an eyesore, too.
I don't really have a place to grow veggies, but I love that my parents have a small garden off to the side of their yard and grow tons of tomatoes. This means I get lots of fresh tomatoes and don't ever have to water or anything else; yes, this is selfish of me, but they always have more than they can eat.
I've seriously slacked on my garden. I did a ton of travelling for work and just didn't feel like it. I got some potatoes and carrots out of it but everything else got took over by weeds.
My confession is that I have done nothing outside this year. I moved at the very end of June and decided to concentrate on the inside now and that next year is the "Year of the Yard"

I have spent hours outside weeding this year, and filled up about 100 gallons worth of trash containers, and there are still more weeds than plants in my yard. My real confession: my mom is flying out to help me with the yard so I've stopped even trying and will let her manage the weeds!
Our new house has a veggie garden that is in need of attention desperately. I'm pretty sure DH wants to grow a few things. I'd rather just rip it out and have grass there. I hate veggie gardening.

We have 7 large beds in our yard. One of them has weeds taller than my head, and the area under our playground is overgrown with weeds. Everything just grew so fast and I got overwhelmed. I did manage to get 2 of the beds weeded and mulched, so I consider myself to have made good progress. 3 of the beds desperately need new mulch but there aren't any real weeds. Probably because they are so shaded. I refuse to touch the playground because we're having retaining walls built around it and the pea gravel replaced, but that probably won't happen until fall. Fortunately, you really can't see any of the worst areas from the road. Buying a foreclosure is a lot of work!
I do not do well with vegetable gardens. Last year I tried growing tomatoes in one of those Tospy Turvy things. Epic fail. I mooch off my friends and family with veggie gardens or happily go to the farmers market.
I figured this would be the year I stayed on top of the weeds now my boys are older, but nope, I think it's the worst of the 6 years we've been here. My veggie garden is so overgrown with weeds and grass it's pretty fug. I can't see much of it from our house/yard, but it's right next to my neighbor's driveway, I figure tomato plants have to be better than dead nothingness. I also don't care by July. I have attempted to plant flowers in there as well, but no luck on seeds.
I let my kids each pick out a tiny fruit or vegetable plant at the garden center this spring thinking it would be nice for them to see how food grows (or, more likely, how hard it is to grow food, as everything I plant dies shortly thereafter). Well DS1's one tiny $1.99 watermelon plant has taken over half our yard! There are like 8-10 big watermelons growing, which is nice I guess, but the watermelon vines everywhere are not pretty. I did not want to be a damn watermelon farmer!
We also have tomatoes that are doing pretty well. Why are the only two things I have ever successfully grown so ugly?
My vegetable garden is not only ugly but unproductive, too. The tomato plants are the only ones yielding anything at all. They are so delicious though!
I think everyone on the internet has lied about how mint grows like a weed. I've never had any success with it.

I don't grow veggies and I don't bake French or Italian bread. I have the skills to do so, but am surrounded by professionals who do it better.
My confessions-
I have not pruned my my front garden evergreens. Soon. I'm a little leery of the English laurel that has hosted a snake breeding ball in previous falls.
I don't give a rat's ass that my species clematis is going to ensanre the mailman. It's 3 days from being gorgeous.
I don't approve of living plants indoors. My niece moved some in with her; I don't get the love. They're annoying and collect dust. I don't like fish or birds in-house either.
My confession is that not only do I have tomatoes growing in my front yard, I have them growing on this
In my defense it is the only place where they get enough sun, any other location on my property is a waste of time.
My other confession is that this is my second year gardening with natives. I am just getting used to their sizes, bloom periods, and growth rates. Some sections look pretty good considering what a noob I am, but some areas are gappy and BAD. I can't wait for the cold weather so that I can move things around.
Our garden fence never got finished so between the deer and the bunnies and the woodchucks and squirrels and chipmunks, it is a shit show. Both literally, those deer crap all over the place and figuratively, full of chewed down plants and weeds (so many weeds). I am actually thinking of taking the weedwhacker to it all this weekend.
But, as a veggie gardener, Spring comes again next year so there is always a chance it won't end up like this again.
And the fence will be completed before winter so next Spring I won't have to deal with as many critters.
