Is there a Vitamin Shoppe near you? They have a pet product line that has something for hot spots, if that's what he's got. I've also heard good things about tea tree oil.
How about benadryl? Dot responds well to that when she's itchy from allergies.
We specifically called to ask about that and anti-itch cream, and they wouldn't recommend on the phone. I looked at the dosing suggested by finally 's list, but I can't find any in my house despite knowing that I have some somewhere. I hate that. How much do you give her and how much does she weigh?
We just give her one adult human tablet. She weighs about 30 pounds. I don't know if there's a dosage difference between weights or where that difference is.
I give Apple 1 Benadryl (40lbs) but she had a bad itch a few weeks ago and I did give her 2 to start and then cut down to 1. It made her very sleepy but did help.
That's what we spray on Doggie D when he gets hot spots on his belly. You can get it at any drug store. He often gets them when he gets a hair mat in his undercarriage and we don't know about it, then he chews and pulls and makes it all raw. He gives himself a rash that looks terribly itchy. We use the red can (antibacterial) if he has broken his skin anywhere. Doggie D's brother gets them worse than Doggie D does, and my parents are always at the vet for oral steroids and abx for their dog. I'm grateful that we are able to control it at home for Doggie D.
