My H DIYed our sprinklers without any prior know-how. He just researched it a bit, then gave it a try. Then a few years later we enlarged our concrete slab. The concrete guys moved the sprinkler lines and heads as part of standard labor of doing the patio.
We diy almost everything, but concrete we hire out. The prices to DIY are not that much of a saving over the experience and materials the pros can achieve.
When we enlarged our slab, the concrete guys came out a week before and removed the sprinkler heads that were going to be covered and capped them off. They had us run the sprinklers as usual for the next week to make sure there were no pressure problems. I think you could DIY. We have switched out busted sprinkler heads ourselves and it has been very easy. I think the hardest part is knowing which system you have and which pieces you need.
