We do $10 an hour for one kid, but she basically told us to set our price, and that's what we set. We round up and give her $50 at her birthday and Christmas, that kind of thing. She's DS's teacher from when he was in the infant room at daycare.

Officially, $15/hour + round up, but I always inflate it because she's awesome and I want her to come back, so it ends up more like $20/hr. Former daycare teacher.
Omg now I'm paranoid under-paying. We paid $7 an hour for one kid (high school girl) and with the baby I've been making it $10/hour. We never have trouble getting a sitter though, and we live in a LCOL area.
We use my hs students. I've never had one ask for over $5/hour when I ask them their rate. We pay $8-$10/hr. We use the same girls over and over, so one time they may get extra, another time right at $8/hr. Our friends think we way overpay, but we are definitely under the average on this board!

It's rare that we have a sitter, but we've done $10/hr before. When I used to babysit ~5 years ago, I made about $10-15 an hour depending on the number of kids.

Meh, we are in a pretty LCOL area too and high schoolers charge $7 an hour. I confirmed this with several other moms and round up at the end of the night. We have no trouble getting sitters.

I haven't ever hired a sitter (we're so lucky to have grandparents nearby!), but I'm going to be hiring one soon.
I've been asking around, and I've been told that for a college age sitter, I should pay $12/hour, and for a high school age sitter $10/hour. I think this is for either 1 or 2 kids.
