First, I miss y'all. This baby thing is time consuming and I can't get in front of the laptop as much as I wish I could. Anyway. whine whine whine.
So, the race. I want to give cyclocross a try since I'm missing most of track season and all those crazy cxers make it look so fun. But, I don't want to spend the money on a bike until I know if I like it or not. So my race team director found one of his son's outgrown mountain bikes and has let me borrow it for a while.
One of our local cx racers put together a summer series to help people get ready for cross season. It's a 1.1 mile loop out on an old golf course. And of course, I got the bike two days before the last race of the season but I decide to be insane and try it anyway. Did I mention G-force baby is only seven weeks old and I've never ridden a MTB before nor ever ridden my bike off road since I had a bike with a banana seat and streamers? And I've ridden my road bike outside exactly once since the baby was born.
Sleep deprivation makes you nutso apparently.
Anyway, I did the race on Sunday. It was so ridiculously fun. I mean, crazy amounts of fun. It wasn't truly a cross race because there weren't any barriers or sand pits or any of the required items and it wasn't a true MTB course either because, hello, Houston, but there were tiny little punchy climbs up over golf course obstacles, a ramp, some sharp turns and a few sandy spots. And lots of roots.
It was also insane amounts of work. Like I wanted to puke on the second lap. But oh the fun. I mean, F-U-N. I started in the very back of the women's pack, got lapped twice by the men and almost twice by the women. Averaged 7.7 miles for 35 minutes. Never puked but felt like it. Finished absolutely dead last. Never had so much fun sucking in my entire life.
And then I went to the velodrome for an hour of practice. Also not my smartest move.
Anyway, here's what is maybe the world's worst photo of me. But the arm pump is because I was finishing
And it should go without saying that trying on race cut cycling clothes seven weeks after giving birth is not exactly good for a girl's ego.
Awesome!!! And now that I follow you on IG, FB, and your blog - I feel like you've been around here all the time! Way to get back at it, you're very inspiring. Signed, Creeper Sessa

And because I use any chance to show of my squish, after the race I went to the velodrome for some practice before racing starts back up this week. Which meant Josh was home with all three kids. He dressed G up in a special outfit to celebrate mama's return to the track
