Both the day cares we used in the past ran on the school year, so all the kids moved to a new room once a year in August. They moved up with all their friends, which was really nice. With DS1 we started paying tuition in August even though he didn't start until November because all the spots would have been filled otherwise because of the school year thing.
My child is 3. He's been in the same dayhome since he was 1 (almost 2.5 years). Same care provider, but I think the kids have entirely turned over at this point.
How old is your child? Will be two in about a month. How long has your child been in daycare? Almost twenty months--since three months old. How many classrooms have they been in? He's about to transition to his third. Technically, it's his fourth, but that's due to transferring centers. Otherwise, it's infant (3-~12 months), toddler (~12-24 months), and early preschool (~24-36 months). He's about to enter early preschool.
15 months old, started at 3.5 months. She went from an infant class to a toddler class, so just the one transition. Won't transition again until just after 2.
Do they move rooms with their caregivers and friends, or do they move on their own and have new caregivers and friends?
I worked in a daycare one summer during college and the kids stayed in the same group of 6 kids, with the same 2 caregivers, from 12 weeks until age 3. I'm not sure how common that is.
With our center, they seem to roughly halve the group--so, half of E's infant room went to his toddler room (the rest to another room), and now half of his toddler room is going to the early preschool room. So, he will be with a few of his buddies in the new room. Teachers are specific to their rooms.
Ours did transitions annually around birthdays. Infants up to 1 year Toddler - 1 year up to 2 years Twos - 2 years up to 3 years Preschool - 3 years up to 4 years PreK - 4 years up to 5 years, or Kinder transfer
She started daycare when she was about 4 months old.
Every time I see you mentioning he is transitioning I'm shocked! It's way too much imo.
J is 26 mos but stopped daycare at 25 mos. He was in the following rooms Infant (started at 6 mos) Older infant (12 mos to 18 months) Toddler 1 (18 to 2years) Toddler 2 ( 2 years to 2.9 when they move to preschool rooms).
He's 5 and in first grade now, but he was in DC for three years and in three classes, 2, 3, and 4. I think before that are only two rooms. Infant and ones.
