This is part of why its important to remember history. I visited the camp at Dachau when I was in Germany. People asked why I would do that, this is part of why. We can never forget!
So..umm...I know this is going to make me look like an idiot, but what is the significance? I 100% acknowledge I don't remember much of my WW history facts. I'm also embarrassed to admit this to the board. But at least I'm asking?
A sherriff's star has 5 points. A Star of David, a Jewish symbol, has 6 points. Prisoners at concentration camps wore uniforms that looked like blue and white striped pajamas. So this shirt paired with the Star of David is pretty appalling.

The fact that it is a six point star makes me wonder if this was a deliberate act by the designer (the subsequently escaped the attention of everyone who reviewed it). If it were just an oversight by someone with no knowledge of history, it seems like it would have been a five point sherif star on a striped shirt.
I also posted it on twitter and tagged Zara and it was shared. I'm trying to figure out who ever thought they'd be able to get away with a "sheriff" badge on a striped shirt. Prisoners wear stripes, not sheriffs. I won't be shopping there ever again.
I posted on their FB page and they replied back to me. Even when someone uses the term "Nazi" in jest, as in "grammar-Nazi" etc, it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Both of my parents fled Nazi-Germany. My dad lost an aunt and cousin in the camps. May Iʻm extra sensitive? A striped blue shirt with a 6-pointed yellow star!!?? Seriously?!

It's ok, I showed it to DH and our friend, horrified, and DH did not understand what the problem was.
The Nazis used symbols (star - Jewish, pink triangle - gay) that had to be worn by the "unworthy." Not all uniforms in the camps had the star, depended which one. But the combination of that with the striped pajamas (which was the uniform for everyone) is particularly appalling.
ETA: the star was mostly used before the Jewish people were sent to the camps
Zara is from Spain, which I can't decide is better or worse.
What do you mean by that? Under Franco's leadership, Spain was most definitely aligned with Germany and has a history of Jewish persecution as well.

What did they say?
Dear jbean, we would like to thank you for transmitting us your concerns. The mentioned T-shirt is no longer on sale in our stores. We honestly apologize, as the design of the T-shirt was only inspired by the sheriff’s stars from the Classic Western films, as the claim of the t-shirt says. Again, please accept our most sincere apologies.

I don't think there's such as overly sensitive thing when it comes to something like this.
This doesn't seem like just a simple mistake. One incident would be just as offensive but could possibly be taken as an oversight, but the swastika handbag AND this shirt? No, there's no way they can be that stupid.

Agreed. And it is important that it be remembered as the terrible event it was. I am still shocked that people think it didn't happen.
