Has anyone heard that United is planning to reduce their allowed carry on luggage size allowance from 22" to 21"? The guy that seemed to be in charge of the luggage department at TJ Maxx mentioned this to me. However, I can't find anything online to back this up.
I'm asking because there is a suitcase that I REALLY want but it's 22" and I prefer to carry on whenever possible.
I'd do a 21" bag because non-U.S. carriers tend to be pickier about carry-on size, so it will be more accepted whatever airline you fly, not just United. Even when we flew business class on Air NZ they made us check a carry-on that U.S. airlines never say anything about.

It probably doesn't matter if they changed it or not. We recently flew, and I can't believe the size of some of the bags people were carrying on! They were not measuring or checking on them at all!

It does matter because sometimes they do check the sizes -- I've had a few annoying gate check incidents lately.

I've actually seen them checking more often on several airlines. I inwardly cheer every time I see an asshole trying to bring on 3 carry ons and they make them check one and charge them.
