For the last few weeks, I have had some lower back pain on my right side only. It is pretty much always there and has started sending shooting pains down my leg in the past couple of days. I thought maybe I just tweaked something and picking up a 25 pound baby probably wasn't helping.
My period was due 2 days ago and is nowhere to be found. I've POAS twice and nothing (it would be extremely unlikely anyway). My right ovary is sore too which is not totally uncommon for me when I am supposed to get my period.
But now I am thinking the two could be related. Dr. Google says maybe a cyst (or you know, cancer).
Anyone have experience with this? I plan to call my doctor today. I'm due for my annual exam anyway.
I have recurring cysts on my tubes and they are a shooting pain. They start in the front and then kind of go down my hip. I haven't had pain in my back from them, but lots of doubled over front pain. Hope you get it figured out!

I also have recurring ovarian cysts, bigger on the right than the left. I have had one burst, and have had surgery to remove a bunch and some endo prior to having C. I would describe the pain as sharp/shooting and fleeting if that makes sense. Sharp right on the ovary, shooting as it came come out of nowhere (I assume when the ovary is trying to release its egg?) and then fleeting as it goes to my back, down my pelvic region and sometimes down my leg.

What you're describing sounds close to the pain I get when I have cysts. Most have resolved while one did require surgical removal. Sometimes they can resolve on their own while others grow and then some rupture which I've heard is very painful.
For me I get achy in my back primarily where my kidneys would be. Then I notice my lower back (tailbone) area becomes sore as well. (almost feels like I need to crack my back). I also notice when I'd get my periods they'd be a lot more painful then normal.
I'm put on HBC when not TTC to help control the cysts.
Yep, I have them on each side. They've been there for years. I can really feel them around 24-48 hrs of ovulation, and often get backaches as well. Mine grow to several centimeters each month, and then partially deflate. I was told to mention them during annual exams if they are particularly uncomfortable. I've had a few ultrasounds to check on them, and am probably due for another, but forgot to mention it at my last annual.
Cysts appear on everyone's ovaries when they ovulate. It's when they become abnormally large that they diagnose you as having cysts.
Talk to your doctor if after a few months you're in terrible pain.
My ovulation pains and periods have become more painful since having my first baby. I think that's common - physical changes in that regard.
I have had cysts before but only knew about them because I was doing fertility treatment so had regular ultrasounds anyway. One month was really bad where I had a ton of large ones. I never had pain but was very bloated. My Dr put me on the pill and then cleared up. I've heard it's a horrible pain if they burst so I'd definitely bring it up at your appt.

Thanks, all. Naturally my period showed up today. I'm on the pill so it's very unusual that I can't time it like clockwork, but I have also started a new eating and work out routine, so maybe that's it.
I called my doctor and scheduled an appointment so I will be sure to bring it up if I am still having pain then.
Make sure you push the issue. I had pain for years with ovulation and period that I knew just weren't normal. However, my gyno would just give me the blanket statement that cramps are worse for some women, blah. Well, I found out that I had a solid tumor ( no cancer) on my overy, and had to get it surgically removed. They took so long to remove it, it grew to softball size, and contorted my overy, so I lost it. Thankfully I was still able to have kids, but I was told to speed up the process because half my eggs were gone. Anyhow, now my periods are nearly pain free. I mean, I still get cramps but not the doubling over, cannot walk kind of cramps.

Wow! This sounds scary. I don't have doubling over pain. Just sort of a numb pain. Ultrasounds during my pregnancy with DS showed my ovaries looked fine. I will definitely bring it up at my appointment though.
