I haven't read any of those specifically, but just to confirm you're looking for non-fiction rec's, right?
I've heard a lot of great things recently about Devil in the White City by Eric Larson, though I haven't read it yet myself. Same with Laura Hillenbrand's Unbroken. I have 12 Years a Slave by Solomon Northrup on my bookshelf (I haven't seen the movie). I enjoyed All the President's Men by Carl Bernstein, which I read a long time ago.
This exercise is making me realize how few American history (non-fiction) books I read! This list appears to have a lot of good ones, though.

I loved The Kennedy Detail. It definitely has a pro-JFK bias, but it was really interesting.
More recent history, but what about Columbine or Zeitoun?
Reading about the Kennedy's is a guilty obsession of mine! Lol. I didn't want to mention it here at first, but, what the hell. I also read Mimi Alford's book, Once Upon a Secret. It was about her affair with JFK. It was a quick, easy read.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'm eager to read all of these!
In that case, you should also check out Mrs. Kennedy and Me by Clint Hill, who was her chief Secret Service agent. It's similar to The Kennedy Detail in the parts about the assassination, but there's a lot more about the family and their lives too.

Colombine was amazing, an absolutely terrific book; I second this recommendation! Other than that, I do have a lot of non-fiction history on my shelf that I haven't read yet, so these are all just books that looked good enough to me to buy!
