I have been holding on to Louise Penny's new book since Tuesday, promising myself a hedonistic weekend of reading. (OK, maybe that's not hedonistic to other people, but we're book people - you know what I mean.)
QOTW: Sitting on porch, overlooking a lake. And wonder of wonders, I'm headed that way in about a week, late for the holiday but perfect for vacation. :-)
I should be reading the Invention of Wings since it's due back in a few days but I haven't got started. I also just got another Jojo Moyes book from the library, the Last Letter From Your Lover. Haven't started yet.
I'm reading The Long Way Home, Louise Penny's new one, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I usually read reviews after I finish a book, but I heard she got a glowing NY Times review -- much deserved, IMO.
QOTW: I pretty much always want to go to the beach. How about a nice, quiet, relatively empty beach town that magically moves an hour or so from my house?
I'm reading Under the Banner of Heaven for book club. It's interesting.
QOTW: probably anywhere that is 3-4 hour drive. I'd love to say the beach, But that's 7-8 hours so I think you need 4-5 Days to make it worth it. Of Course we're currently on the way to see my family 6 hours away...
I will probably finish Voyager (Outlander #3) today. It's my favorite of the series so far.
I liked Voyager, too, but as I was trying to remember why I realized I can't really remember what happens in each book anymore (kinda like with Game of Thrones - everything runs together).
Scarlett by Margaret Mitchell (the sequel to Gone with the Wind) as my "regular" book Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for bedtime The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell on audiobook while walking the dog
Unfortunately I have to work on Monday so I'm trying hard not to think about 3-day weekends.
I just started reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I'm only on chapter 2, but I'm enjoying it so far.
QOTW: We just got back from vacation so we'll be staying home this weekend. Mostly I plan to do laundry and read. Normally we like to go out to one of the local state parks for an overnight.

Late to the party, but I'm reading Murder in Chelsea. It's good so far, but I read the last chapter first so I know what happens, though not the solution to the murder mystery.
QOTW: Here, I love to head to Melbourne for a long weekend. There is so much to do there and so much I still need to explore. In the US, the best long weekends were wherever my friends were: Columbus, MS; Memphis, TN; Tuscaloosa, AL; Little Rock, AR; Dallas, TX or Lafayette, LA. If I was going by myself, I loved to head to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and stay at the casino hotels for a weekend of luxury.
I literally just started The Storied Life of AJ Fikry and I'm already hooked. An island bookstore off of Cape Cod? A quirky owner, a frazzled publisher rep and a mystery? Yes please! Hoping to curl up for a couple of hours this morning with it.
I'm listening to The Care and Management of Lies by Jacqueline Winspear. It's promising so far. Excellent narrator.
I'm also chipping away at a reread of The Book Thief and a first read of The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan. No doubt it is excellently written, but I just haven't been in the frame of mind for non fiction lately, so it's slow going.
Qotw: I'm lucky to live within 1.5 hours or so of the Finger Lakes and the beautiful wine country. So many great little towns, restaurants, wineries, breweries and b&bs , camping and cottage rentals to try. We go for a weekend or a night any chance we can, but in a couple of weeks we're going for a week to a rental cottage, so it'll be coffee and reading on the dock every morning.... Can't wait!
A couple of you mentioned Louise Penny. I have never heard of her, what kind of books does she write?
She writes a series of mysteries featuring Chief Inspector Armand Garmache. The first few, IMO, are decent basic mysteries, but by the fourth there's this amazingly well-developed character arc that has emerged and continues through the rest of the series. So in each book there's a mystery but there's all this other stuff going on internally and externally with the characters and oh my goodness it's just so good.
Hilary Clinton recently mentioned in an interview that she enjoys them, so they've had some extra attention from that, too.
I'm 32% through Nantucket Nights by Elin Hilderbrand. I'm really enjoying it so far and it's a mystery set on a Labor Day weekend, so that's fun.
QOTW: I'd love a quiet weekend at an empty beach. I'd want to stay in an ocean front house with a big deck I could sit on and read for hours. Maybe walk down and sit on the sand with a cooler and just relax.
Good Lord, I just got 2 more library e-books come in the last 2 days: Americanah and then another Jojo Moyes book. I might have to triage and figure out which of the books I want to read in the next couple weeks, especially since I'm not even halfway done with Invention of Wings yet.
