I'm honestly dying of curiosity now to know where you work, because this is what my husband does for a living.
Summary - ALWAYS wear your seat belt.
This is what I was wondering, too, because my husband works in a somewhat similar car safety role. (He is a car seat designer, but has to do a million car safety classes in general).

Interesting. So which car seat does he suggest? Hubs wants the safest lol
My H works in vehicle crash safety, so airbags deployment and seat belt and pedestrian safety as well.

I'll text him and ask! (His isn't on the market until next year.) I have asked before but forget the answer. I want to say Britax. I do think he has said in the past that incorrect installation is a lot more dangerous than the brand in most cases, though your H is probably all over that! He was just up in Buffalo doing crash tests and said that the process is really cool and that it seems like a really interesting industry.
I was shocked to learn that they only test car seats up to 30 mph. That seems so low!

Yeah they only test vehicle crash up to... 45? I don't recall. Seems low to me but that's the standard!

Note to self: don't get in a car accident on a highway.
So, he wrote back and said convertible is Britax (in general) or Clek Foonf but that Foonf is hard to install and if you do it incorrectly it defeats the purpose. Diono is also good.
He isn't on the infant seat team so I guess he will have to ask around for recommendations there, but I've heard good things about the Chicco KeyFit, too.
Follow-up to my PSA: It's really easy to forget to shift your seat belt downward! I got half-way home this afternoon before realizing it was still across my lower abdomen. So now there is a "Fix Seat Belt!" Post-It on my dashboard.
That will get easier as the bump gets bigger. It will stay down low.

Good reminder about putting it under the belly! My bump hasn't quite gotten big enough to slide the belt down, so I'll have to remind myself to readjust it from now on.
You know I've thought about this too and I've read that it should be under the belly as well, but I don't have enough for there to be an under just yet. Sometimes I'll throw a sweater in between as a little extra padding.
I do. I have a weird body and have to tuck my seatbelt under my belly. It doesn't go there. Nor does it always stay. I move around a lot (I don't sit well anywhere) and I have to readjust a LOT. And the bigger the belly, this is not getting easier. It sits on my lap now when I sit down and there is just no place for the seatbelt to go unless I make it! Which I do! Like 80%??...

I got in an accident at 32 weeks and not sure where the seat was placed, but it was probably across my belly. So lucky that the baby was okay. My belly was totally black and blue and I had two huge hemotomas from the seatbelt, but I cannot imagine what would have happened if I wasn't wearing it.
So, guess not a real point, but it's amazing how well protected babies are in there.

I have a big belly and still have issues with the seat belt. I don't feel like my belly really ends, his head is way down there by my underwear line and I regularly get cervical punches. I kind of feel like wherever it is it'd be a problem. Hopefully no accidents!
