All I experienced was bloating and I was fairly tired. It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, and thankfully most of the needles are really small and don't hurt. Maybe ice down the injection spot before you do the stick.

It all depends on the meds. I did five total cycles and the worst I ever felt was just toward the end of the cycle I was bloated. No moodiness extreme enough for me to remember five years later.
I didn't do any intramuscular ones, though. Only subdermal (?).

The Lupron didn't do much to me, but the Menopur made me feel like I was coming down with a cold. Just kind of achy and tired. It was totally tolerable, I just freaked out the first cycle because I thought I was getting sick and they won't do the retrieval if you are sick. It really wasn't that bad. Try not to freak yourself out. Be kind to yourself. And hugs.
I had no issues. I was only on Bravelle though as we went from an IUI cycle last minute to IVF. I switched sides each night and H did the injection. Sometimes it hurt and sometimes I felt nothing but it was very quick. It's hard at first but I had so many monitoring appts that it kind of kept my mind busy. The worse for me was the PIO that starts after retrieval. But once you get into a routine it isn't bad.
And all of my injections were right above my butt. I never worked up the nerve to do stomach. I did have to do 2 in my leg (can't remember the name but it's one that keeps you from ovulating) and I didn't feel it. If you are nervous just put an ice pack on the area for a minute and that numbs it enough.
Well I just had eggs retrieved, but I had them frozen, so I can't speak to anything after retrieval.
Lupron made me a little emo, but I was also on letrazol, which prevents systemic absorption. I noticed that my blood sugar was really sensitive. Like I'd go from "maybe I could eat" to the low blood sugar shakes in 15 minutes.
Next round I am DEFINITELY taking the day after the trigger shot/day before the retrieval off work. I was REALLY uncomfortable sitting at my desk all day.
And I was in quite a bit of pain (persistent cramps with occasional shooting pains, really bloated, felt like I had the worst gas ever) for about 5 days after the retrieval.
BUT! Keep in mind I have endo, so I'm positive that my side-effects were magnified, especially at the end. Also, they were only able to retrieve from my left ovary, so a lot of the pain was from the fact that my right ovary was still super swollen - the follicles were late bloomers on that side.
ETA: I did all the shots into my lower abdomen. They were pretty easy. I nailed veins a couple times and ended up with some bruises, but NBD. The menopure was the worst, only because it was a really small gauge and the injection was sllllooooow. All the others were like zzzip! Done!
I always felt like-oh, these meds don't have too much of an effect on me. Lupron, estradiol, etc...it doesn't really affect me. And then I'd find myself sobbing at commercials, snapping at my students, and gaining weight without reason. Then I'd think...uh, ok, maybe this is what the meds do to me?! Good luck with your cycle!

LOL! Yes. This was me too. I'd feel mostly fine and then I got a talking-to from my boss and I spent 30 minutes in the file room having a panic attack. Awesome.

The worst part for me was the Doxycycline. That shit is evil, but it's only a few days. And evil at the time, but it couldn't be that bad b/c I forgot to mention it in my first reply.

Hah. The only medication I'm allergic to. It gives me hives.
berbles How many eggs did you get frozen? I have endo, too, and its causing me to apparently have less than the average amount of follicles. They said endo ovaries are stressed and have less eggs.
Yes, that is absolutely true*. I only got 6 But all six were mature and froze well.
*Actually, I've never heard that it's because the ovaries are stressed, but that the meds can exacerbate the endo, so they don't put us on as high a dose as non-endo patients. It's too risky.
I had LOTS of follicles, but only 6 eggs that matured all the way. It could be a little of both explanations.

Makes sense! Glad you got 6! Right now I have 11 follicles and my egg retrieval is Tuesday.
11 total? Or 11 in the right size range? At my last appointment I think I had 9 in the right range and almost 20 altogether.
And dang, I didn't know when my retrieval was going to be (exact day) until they told me, "Do the trigger shot tonight, we'll call you and let you know what time your retrieval will be on Thursday."

11 total, all varying sizes. He measured them today and apparently can predict a pattern of growth? I live 2.5 hours away from my RE so I have to plan ahead for traveling. My mindset has basically turned into "I'll take what I can get" as far as eggs goes, lol. I just assumed I'd have a plethora of eggs because I'm young! Nope, endo says f you for the hundredth time.
Yikes, that's crazy. I was seeing my RE every other day the week before and then every day for 4 days leading up to my retrieval.
lucky513 i didn't realize you were going down this road, best of luck to you and please KUP. when we did ivf i don't remember many symptoms aside from being tired, some bloating and maybe some headaches. nothing huge. weight gain and puffy face from the steroids though.
sequins i didn't know you were cycling too, please kup.
i'm rooting for you guys really hard and hope this works.
Thanks! I tagged you the other day to say that I've been reading your blog. I don't know if you saw it. You were so cheerful during your cycle and I'm trying to be like you

It didn't make me sick, but I got hot flashes when I was on the Lupron phase. I HATE needles, and sticking myself didn't bother me at all. I may have actually liked it a little bit. I don't know why.

I have no idea, but good luck to you!!
Eta: I just re-read my post and thought it might come off weird and/or take the wrong way and I really hope it doesn't. I don't know how to answer the question you posted on, but couldn't resist telling you that I'm really just hopeful for you and really wish you the best of luck.
