I will certainly be pushing for trying both, but my husband doesn't like the Montreal bagels in NY so I'm not sure i'll be able to convince him to get them twice

I feel sorry for your husband.
Any solid brunch place in town will be serving them, so you won't have to make a special trip to try both. I mean, there's something amazing about getting a piping hot, fresh bag of them, but they ate still delicious toasted with cream cheese and lox, so you should be able to actually try both even if you don't visit each bakery.
Update: we tried both, hot out of the oven, and I wasn't impressed. Not a bad food, but nothing to get excited about IMO? AND WHY DON'T THEY BUTTER THEM?
I had a not hot (but lightly buttered) St. Viateur bagel at the Bagel Bar at YUL this morning and that one was affirmatively blah. Even the (unsalted) butter was blah.
- Da Emma (the bruschetta was excellent, but the rest of the meal was meh and overpriced we thought) - Moishe's (we did the after 9 $25 prix fixe, which made it the most MM steakhouse meal we've ever had) - Bevo Bar + Pizzeria (pretty good)
Lunches:
- I forget the name of the place we went to the first day -- pizzeria across the street from our hotel - Romado's (piri piri chicken is one of my favorites) - Eggspectation

Is Moishe's a fancy place? Would MH need a jacket?

My husband wore jeans and a dress shirt and that seemed typical there. The after 9 deal draws a young crowd.
