One of the rescuer helicopter crew members from my dad's crash passed away last Sunday. I kind of want to write his family a note. I mean, I don't know him or anything, but I saw him on a documentary and they (he and the pilot) spoke about how they kept going back and how heartbreaking it was for them that they could not do more, never mind they were risking their own lives in the effort.
Not weird. When my grandfather died we got emails from his students (he was a teacher) and one of his students spoke at the funeral. Its nice to hear nice words about your loved one even if you don't know the person.
He was only a couple years older than my mom, had a bunch of kids, two of whom are already deceased, grandkids and even great-grandkids and they asked for donations to St. Jude's in lieu of flowers, which I think is great and makes me wonder if one of his children died young.
