I came very close to skipping the 5k I was signed up for. On Thursday I had averaged 13:14 minute miles on the treadmill which was the fastest I've done since my rib/lung issues in June. I was excited so I figured I would push myself in the 5k. Fast forward to yesterday and I got my period and was up from 12-1:30, 2:30-4 am with cramps and then again at 5 am and I couldn't fall back asleep. I got up at 6 and took a hot shower and some Motrin and tried to wake up. I normally don't drink coffee the morning of a race, but that went out the window since I was tired and I drank a giant iced coffee. As I was getting dressed DS came out of his room crying because he had wet the bed and was really upset. I put him in the shower and started cleaning it up. We got a later start because of that and by the time I got there I was so spent that I decided finishing was my goal. I ate a banana and some peanut butter and 4 of the energy jelly beans that I grabbed from the cabinet on a whim. The race started and I surprisingly felt great...so great that I beat my previous PR by 43 seconds and finishing in 37:33 which was 12:04 minute miles. I was floored and so happy I didn't skip it. My confidence has been pretty crappy since June so this was huge.

Thanks everyone! I think going forward I'll do the coffee and jelly bean chews, but skip the horrible cramps, bed wetting and crying toddler...lol! I start my 10k training schedule tomorrow and I have to say after having such a good race yesterday I am very excited.
