I need to buy a queen sized bed for our guest room. My parents will be staying with us for 7 days so I'd like it to be relatively comfortable.
I haven't bought a bed for 10 years, and ours is the super fancy top of the line etc. Obviously I don't need it to be super fabulous A+ quality. Where do I look? Local store? Costco? Does Amazon Prime have good mattresses with free shipping?
Also, will any queen mattress fit on any queen frame? Or do I need to carefully measure before buying?
We have always bought from a large local furniture store. The ones around here always seem to have sales around holidays.
Any queen size mattress should fit in any queen size frame. The only concern might be the mattress height (too short or too high for the headboard or footboard).
I just bought a memory foam mattress from Amazon for our upstairs guest bed. We also bought one from Overstock for our own bed. I'm very happy with both (I sleep in the guest bed when DH's snoring keeps me up).

Ditto on the memory foam from Overstock. I love mine and it was super inexpensive. Way better than my old $$$ bed!
We bought a full size mattress for my daughter online at Sleepys. Not sure if they are only regional. I chose a mattress that was already on sale, then googled for additional coupons and got an extra 20% off plus free delivery.
It also happens to be the most comfortable mattress in our house.

We got ours at Denver mattress. It's a decent quality queen and was probably around $400-ish. I sleep on it now and then if my h is snoring, and it's actually really comfortable.
we got the mattresses for our vacation home from www.tuftandneedle.com (they also sell on Amazon and have amazing reviews). We've been super happy with them so far.
We got our son's double mattress at IKEA and it is super comfortable. Last year we got the Hemnes pull-out daybed and everyone who has slept on it says it is really comfortable. It called for two of the small twin mattresses to pull out to a king, but we recently put it upstairs for our other son so it just stays a daybed now. I'll probably get another one closer to the holidays if my parents come visit.
