CALLAHAN, Fla.-- A Florida mother is outraged after her son was expelled from preschool because of a Facebook post on her personal page.
Ashley Habat told a Jacksonville, Florida TV station that she was upset because the school didn't give parents more time to get ready for picture day. Habat later posted her frustration about it on Facebook and the school told Habat that her son, Will, could no longer attend.
Habat said she doesn't regret expressing her opinion, which she said was posted to her private page for only her friends to see. Regardless, she told the station she doesn't believe her son should be punished for something she wrote.
Habat said she and her son were late for school on picture day at Sonshine Christian Academy in Callahan. She told an administrator checking in her son that she thought the school didn't give enough notice of picture day. The administrator said they put a note in Will's folder the week before.
She never expected the school to see her post, she said.
She tagged the school in the post, and the next morning, she received a call, asking her to stop by the office when she dropped her son off.
I saw this on the news the other day. It was the most passive aggressive post, too. She *wanted* the school to see the post then was all doe eyed "what?! I didn't mean for them to see it!"
"Not gonna lie; I kind of keep expecting you to post one day that you threw down on someone who clearly had no idea that today was NOT THEIR DAY." ~dontcallmeshirley
Her post: The post read, “Why is it that every single day there is something new I dislike about Will's School? Are my standards really too high or are people working in the education field really just that ignorant.”
School's explanation to her: "Your relationship with Sonshine did not get off to get a very good start the first day of school. You utilized social media to call into question not only the integrity but the intelligence of our staff. These actions are consistent with sowing discord which is spoken of in the handbook you signed."

How much notice does one need to get ready for picture day? Put on clean, nice-ish shirt, brush hair, done.
Team school.
If I have to pay for the package on picture day, I need enough notice that I can work it into the budget.
Are schools still making people pay on the actual day the pics are taken? I haven't seen that practice in a long time. We have had the see proofs and then decide which pics you want deal for a long time. I could see how having to pay would be an issue but if that is not the case then no biggie.

K, after reading her actual post content and the response by the school, I'm adequately enlightened to be Team School.
I come from a B2C brand mentality where if we're tagged in a negative comment on social media, we respond to make that person happier if possible. That's obviously not the same realm as this story.

Some still do, yes.
My school still collects money on the day. I just gave out all the forms last weds/thurs at parent meetings and pics are the 17th, there will be reminders, but I had one parent upset that she wouldn't know sooner (note, these parent meetings take place before school starts) b/c it wasn't in her budget and she would have to get money from her BF. The cheapest package is $6, so I do feel badly that she doesn't have a spare $6, but I can't really tell her sooner than before school starts.

My kids have attended three different schools and we've had to pony up on or before picture day at every one.
I would love to be able to see proofs beforehand because sometimes the picture just isn't that good and I don't want to pay for 28 wallet-sized just to get the 5 x 7.

yah we have always had to pay in advance too. That is why the only pics I have now are the proofs that were free.

I am surprised so many people have to pay before seeing the pictures. We get to see proofs but we do need to return them. I admit I have no clue how it is done once she gets to elementary school.
We just get the digital disc so I can decide to get prints after; way cheaper than if they do prints for us.
The companies our schools have used only allow you to buy the disc if you buy a certain level package and even then as an add on. So $65 package plus $15-30 for the disc.
They're daycare pictures. Why is she making such a big deal out of them?
She sounds like a pleasant person anyway. I'm curious to know if she's always such a drama queen or if the school didn't help her develop a bitch eating crackers towards them at some point, kwim?
They dumped him so they don't have to deal with her. I don't blame them.
Yep the kid that got kicked out of my son's daycare was a bully (he was 2 and I don't like to use that word for a baby but he was) but I think the tipping point was that the mom was an absolute PITA to all the teachers and staff.
Yep. And considering the number of places that have gigantic waiting lists, I'm not surprised. Why keep around someone who is a PITA when you have 60 people who will jump at the chance to take his/her place?
