DS2 (now 3 years old) has a black headboard, but we still are using the dresser that he had as a baby. It doubled as a changing table, so it was pretty beat up on the top, and I kind of hated the honey color, so last weekend I decided to refinish it to match the headboard. Then today, DH talked me into also painting a dresser mirror that we had found in the rafters of the garage when we moved in three years ago, then we mounted it on DS1's dresser. All in all, the project cost me about $65 including paint and painting supplies, and new hardware for the drawers. I already had the primer and paint, so the mirror was about as close to free as you can get.
Dresser before: (I had already taken one drawer face off and was WAY too lazy to put it back on for the before pic)
I started last Saturday, so it took me a week to do the dresser, but DH was working a lot, and my kids don't like to stay away from wet paint, so I only worked on it during nap time and after they were in bed. I also didn't work on it every day. The mirror I started and finished today.

It looks awesome! We did a similar refinishing to the honey oak vanity in our master bath, except we used java stain instead of paint. You did a great job!

Last summer I did the same thing to our bathroom cabinets too. I used a very dark brown paint rather than stain, though. I just love how a little paint can transform something!
Great results! Isn't paint wonderful! I highly recommend the Benjamin Moore Advance satin paint for furniture - the results are very professional and do not look "painted" with the final finish. Solid wood furniture from the past with some paint beats a good deal of furniture on the market today.
