I started ob/gyn today and up until Dec I have 3 months of ob/gyn with 1 month of Emergency. I survived the horrid internal med for 2 mind numbingly boring months. But I kept a smile on my face and got good reviews.
I'm happy to have moved on to vaginas and babies for the next several months! I'm not excited for the hours, but I signed up for the lifestyle and 12+ hours goes by quickly when you're interested.
ETA: Oh and residency applications go out this month, plus I should find out my step 2 board scores soon. So I'm extra nervous and excited for the next couple of weeks! More so nervous and freaking out, ha.
Yay! I have a secret dream of being an L&D nurse. Are you in NYC now? If so, how are you liking it? If you're comfortable saying, what neighborhood/hospital did you end up in?
Nope, not in nyc. I decided not to do any away electives in nyc and decided to stick to local places. But I think I'm applying to 6 or 7 nyc residency programs!

Good luck!
My BFF is also a 4th year and from what she has told me the matching sounds so stressful. She also still doesn't know what she wants to specialize in, so I think that is freaking her out even more, haha.
Was it weird the first time you gave a woman a pelvic exam? I imagine after a whole vaginas become old hat but I think I'd be nervous at first.
I'm obviously not the OP but I've examined post-partum women as a nursing student.
I was not nervous, but I was very aware of the fact that it may be uncomfortable for the patient. I tried to be as breezy as possible, while explaining what I was doing/examining. lol
I found most women DO NOT care what you are looking at in that area after giving birth.

I don't think anything I've done so far throughout my 4 years has really felt "weird" but yes I've been nervous doing most things for the first time. Hell I was nervous when I was assigned my first patient and just had to go talk to them. Now I'm all breezy with that I'd say the most nerve wracking has been doing things on kids like drawing blood because I feel like the parent makes it worse, ha. Doing things during surgery is less intimidating since the patient is obviously sedated Luckily, I've always had nice patients that know they're at a teaching institution and have to deal with residents and students, so that has been very helpful and it's nice to get compliments because they know you're learning.
chilerellanos, kristie, we've been surprisingly slow. We've been putting folks on call, calling them off... I expect it to pick up soon though.
We are a smaller unit, 7 labor rooms, 2 ORs, and 2 triage. I got called in on a night shift the other night and we did 3 unscheduled C/Ss and two vag deliveries, on top of the four they had scheduled for the following day (one was twins), and the 6 vag deliveries. 16 babies in 24 hours. We don't do that, ever. Six a day is pretty busy for us. I am prn, so I will enjoy the rush while I can.

Sounds like us. 10 LDR rooms, 2 ORs, 2 triage. We typically have 1-2 babies in a day on the weekends, 6-8 in the middle of the week. 10 is a busy day for us.

We did have a big dispute and our hospital no longer takes BCBS, so we will probably be a lot less busy now.
We were so lucky we switched to united healthcare at the start if this year randomly. I have so many friends that this is going to effect. I am guessing it gets solved quickly (and hoping).
Vagina land just called me looking for more nurses. :/
It's that time of year. Lol, I am killing it on call pay right now. Freaking Christmas and New Years babies
My OB specifically took call this weekend because she has so many patients due in the next couple of weeks (me included - lol) that she figured at least one of us would pop out a baby this weekend. Not it!
