H and I have 5 days mid-October. We are debating between two options:
1. Nashville 2. Eastern Caribbean cruise (stops in Grand Turk, the cruise line owned island, and Nassau)
As far as cost they would be roughly equal in terms of travel to location and accommodations. Obviously in Nashville we would also have to cover meals but the cruise we would have excursion costs. We could save money by driving if we decide to go the Nashville route.
We will be going to Myrtle Beach in September ( I know, I know, it was H's turn to pick) if that makes a difference in your opinion.
We just went on our first cruise and we had an absolute blast and we didn't do a single excursion! Everything you can possibly need and do is on your ship. We just walked around the towns and went to a few museums. If we had the money, I would book another right now!

I'm not really a beach person and I don't like cruises, so Nashville.
eta: For the record, there are lots of places in the US I would love to visit before Nashville. I'm sure it's nice, but not really apples-to-apples with a Caribbean cruise.
We thought we weren't cruise people, until we went on one.
We have been on several cruises and both enjoy them. That is not an issue, we just can't decide which we would rather do. We have been on a Caribbean cruise we have never been to Nashville.
ETA: The cruise we were on went to Nassau and the cruise line island but Grand Turk would be a new stop for us.

Nashville, but I hate people and don't want to be stuck on a ship with thousands of people and their germs. Plus, don't you have to eat with strangers on a cruise? Just kill me.
I hate people, too.
I also hate to inform you that germs are everywhere. LOL.
On our Galapagos trip, you could sit anywhere to eat, including a table for two.
Isn't 5 days an awfully long time to spend in Nashville? As much as I don't really like cruises, cruise wins out for me.
I agree with the bolded - Nashville's a nice city to visit, but it's more of a weekender than a 5-day even IMO. I'd do the cruise, especially if you've cruised before and enjoy them.

I'm about 1000% not interested in taking a cruise (being trapped on a boat stresses me out) but I wouldn't want to spend more than 2-3 days in Nashville. Can you go to another US city instead? For a five day trip I'd rather go to Charleston, New Orleans, San Francisco, Denver, Seattle, Portland, New York, Boston, Miami, etc. instead.
#3, neither? Lol. Cruises don't interest me (too many people, "pack/heard-like" IMOP. I went to Memphis and (sorry TN) people) I hated it. I thought the people were rude and mean (and I live outside of Boston!), so Nashville doesn't interest me. Sorry. Maybe Nashville is different.
Memphis =/= Nashville.
Nashville is an awesome city, for a long weekend. 5 days is too long to spend there.

Tell me more about your Galapagos trip, please! It's on H's bucket list and we are trying to determine where to go next year.
The only thing that would worry me about the cruise is that's pretty much peak Hurricane season. If you go the cruise route, I'd definitely get insurance.
I've never been to Nashville and while it's a place I would like to visit, I'd definitely pick the cruise if given the choice. Especially if the cost is going to come out about the same. Cruise all the way.

I went last year. Wait. The year before last? I'm terrible. I also went in 2004.
It is my fave vacation of all time, which is why I repeated it. LOL. And, notwithstanding my bad memory of actual timing, it is an unforgettable experience.
If you like wildlife, there is no better place to visit. The terrain is relatively pristine, and the animals get so close to you. They are unafraid of humans.
