2T are longer and bigger than 24m. I need adjustable waist or dapper snappers on pretty much everything for my skinny child. Shirts you can probably just skip to 2T.
DS is tall but we still used both. There was a time when 2t pants were too big but 18mo were too small/short. He didn't stay in 24m for very long but may be worth getting a few things if you notice a size difference.
I think we only had maybe 2-3 24m shirts and that was plenty. They were wide and short. I did use 24m onesies to layer during the winter though and they lasted quite awhile. They may still actually fit...

Someone once told me 24 month pants have more room for a diaper. I am honestly not sure if this was in general or one specific brand they were referring to. For the most I agree that 2T is longer.

I've heard that too. I feel like disposable diapers don't take up that much room though? Or maybe my kid just has a tiny butt, unlike me, lol.
