We have 2 iPads, and I have an iPhone. My iPad and iPhone have a folder with "Toddler Apps". He is allowed to play with the phone/iPad only when we are travelling on long car trips, or if we're spending the night somewhere and he wakes up at an absurd hour, he's allowed to play with it until a decent hour i.e. 6:30-7:00 am. The only thing he watches is Daniel Tiger, and he normally only watches one episode, so they are more for the games than for tv/movies.
We've been thinking about getting a family tablet for Christmas. I have an ipod touch that she loves and it was great during our road trip last month because she could watch shows.
Why is the head rest holder unsafe though? I saw that and thought it was genius!
Colin knows how to use the iPad and it was purchased for him. Not for his exclusive use but when I got pregnant with Oliver I knew there would be a lot of doctors appointments and that I would need to keep him busy. We have quite a few really fun learning apps that he loves and has learned a lot from. He doesn't use his iPad everyday but on days where he doesn't nap I require him to relax, sit, and sometimes allow him to play the iPad. I feel like electronics are just a part of our lives now and I want him to be good at using them. Schools in my area are equipped with all these gadgets so I might as well use it to my benefit and let him use it for learning.
My mil wants to get him a tablet. I'm just not ready and after hearing your reviews of the kid ones I'm not impressed. We don't have iPads and he only has 2 games on my phone. I deleted all of them for a while. However mil lets him play with her phone a lot
DD uses our ipad but it basically lives in our bedroom. When she wakes up in the morning (we usually end up co-sleeping), she's able to watch the PBS Kids app until mommy and daddy are ready to wake up and take her downstairs. It's basically the world's most expensive snooze button for parents but it is awesome.
She uses our phones to look at photos and videos of herself. I deleted the PBSKids app from my phone to discourage too-frequent use (it would be Daniel Tiger all-day everyday if we let her).
If we were to get her one of her own (which we might, in a couple years), we'd totally do the much cheaper Kindle Fire.

He just uses my ipad air for movies in the car.
We have a classic old school ipad that he plays the Endless ABC's on sometimes, but he isn't too interested in it just yet.
WE have a leappad that we got for Christmas from the IL's, but i don't even know how to use that thing. I need to plug it in the computer and figure it out.
We have two ipads - one we bought a few years ago and I have one for work.
H started letting them play ipad games towards the end of the summer, so they know how, but need our help. Just this past weekend on our 3 hour drive, I let DD play the ipad to keep her quiet while DS napped. She did pretty good and only hit the home button twice. She really likes an app called Sorting and they like the Daniel Tiger app. I let her have my phone while we were out to eat ONCE for about 2 minutes, and now she asks for it all the time. Big mistake. (for us...not judging!)
We also impulse purchased (Shopko anyone?)on our drive dual screen DVD players this weekend. We had an old portable dvd player that sat in the console between seats, but it stopped working. They will mostly watch movies in the car, so these worked out great.

Dh has a nice android tablet and I have an iPad. Julian isn't allowed to touch either one, unless I hand it to him, which only happens if I'm trying to get him to poop in the toilet. He's not allowed to play with phones either. He watches tv. In car rides, which we regularly go to Michigan, he just hangs out and eats fries the whole time.
i. Not against it at all, I just don't want him to break our stuff. He broke my old phone before. My mom has been talking about getting him those kids iPads.

Miss A has an iPad mini. We use it for entertainment during flights (it has saved my ass on more than a few occasions), occasionally during breakfast or lunch to watch ASL videos, and to FaceTime with our families. FaceTime is the main reason we have it for her. She does not have unrestricted access to it.
I am anti kids having their own electronics. This is more of an issue with my older child as I don't want him to think he is entitled to using them whenever he sees fit. So we have an ipad and it is the family ipad.
Matilda doesn't have her own tablet or electronic device and she will not for a while I don't think. I just can't justify the cost and also I feel we don't have as much need for electronics since she goes to daycare full time. TV seems to be enough for now, to keep her entertained.
When we travel to Ireland for christmas she'll get the ipad or anything she wants for silence.
Even though mostly it is a cost thing, I would still be annoyed if say MIL bought her a tablet for christmas and probably would not accept it. Unless it were an actual ipad then of course I would accept it and use it myself
