I just googled and *some* of that stuff is okay but those damn clown pants!?! They are so ugly and they are everywhere around here! I'd love to see an adult in those pants, though lol.
People really do wear them...some I've seen look good, but the people wearing them are, in general, very stylish and work whatever they wear, kwim? I think they could go to hot mess quickly though. I have a few adult pieces (none of the ruffle pants, though, mostly some knit dresses or knit tops).
My daughter hates the wide ruffled pants. I really only like the look if it's paired with a plain top, and even then, I think it works best on the little ones.
Last spring, they had a tween model modeling a very young dress with the wide ruffled pants and I just felt sorry for the model. It was such a weird thing.
And I imagine no one here is heavily invested in MJ, but among the long time fans of the brand, there's definitely a feeling of "wtf" over the past few years. I've been buying it since I had Scarlett, and even have some items I've bought from previous lines before she was born (bought from ebay and the like), but over the past few years, a lot of things have just gotten more and more crazy. More fabrics, more crazy combos, etc. I think they used to do a much better job styling the outfits so that they looked like cute outfits, not a mish mash or every piece they could possibly put on a model and try to sell it. I personally find it a lot harder to pick pieces and put together outfits now compared to when I first started buying. Plus, my daughter has very specific tastes and she does not like the pieces that are too much, or have too much embellishment (flutter sleeves, she hates flutter sleeves). I also know that the people who host the shows that are the largest (most benefits for them - half price items and "spare change") are ones who put a lot of effort into putting cute outfits together because the way MJ styles the items and the pictures they post do not sell these clothes to most people.

Omg. Hahaha. If you changed it into a long skirt she would look like a fundie.
That fox sweater is ADORABLE. However, I about had a stroke when I saw the price... $46. For a sweater. For a 3 year old.
No.
And I'm pretty sure they had the same sweater at Old Navy last winter for $15.
They also had one very similar at Walmart for $9. It had the same colors as a pair of leggings from MJ at the same time, and tons of people bought the sweater to wear with their MJ leggings. So now MJ has a sweater, that matches a similar pair of leggings from this year. I will say that the Walmart sweater unraveled at the wrist after a few wears; maybe the MJ version will hold up better.
I clearly like MJ and buy a lot of it, but I'm happy to criticize them as well. Some of it is fug. A lot of the styling is insane. Some of the prices are ridiculous (okay maybe all, but it's relatively in line with other similar brands). They also tend to have some pieces that were "inspired" by things people paired with the MJ items the previous season. The blind loyalty they inspire from people is funny to me, even though I like a lot of it.

Agreed. Plus, you can buy it on sale from MJ eventually, which works out very well.
I don't really get the blind hatred, just as I don't get the blind loyalty. Not all of it is fug, some of it is downright terrible, and the pairings plus accessories some moms combine are just absurd, but the quality truly is great and I actually find it easier for DD to wear than some of the stuff from brands that are popular on these boards that are too tailored for easy movement.

I love MJ on my girls but totally agree that some of the pieces can get fug. My favorite thing about MJ, though is the resale. I sell everything after we've worn a few times and can buy more. There aren't many other brands that hold value like MJ.
