It's like those little assholes know it's September. I saw the first one on my house yesterday. Last year there would be tons on the back of our house, and a bunch made their way in. They were everywhere up until jan/feb. I can't remember a day I didn't find at least one inside my house. Once I found one on my pillow. It isn't good for my sanity.
We didn't understand what the hell was going on last year around this time and had just moved in. This year, we have to get them before they move in. Has anyone figured out anything that worked? I know about the caulking and sealing windows, it doesn't seem to work.
Nothing works. I have been dealing with these little shits for about seven years now. They get into my house and into my work office. I don't even know how the hell they get in.
You have to make peace with the stink bugs.
Ugh, please don't tell me this. There has to be something. I can't make peace with them, I can't.
Don't laugh. I'm going to try making a spray with essential oils.
This study had good results with Clove Oil, Spearmint Oil, an Lemongrass being repellents.
I just have to figure out what to mix it with (water, witch hazel, vodka, etc.)
DH made a spray of something that would kill them quickly. It had soap in it, because soap can get under their stupid shell and why most sprays don't work. It didn't work to repel them, but it worked during the day. Then when he came home, I would point out where he needed to clean up their stupid dead bodies.
We had "box elder bugs" (stink bugs) so bad at our old house. I finally called Orkin and they said "well we can't guarantee it will get rid of them but we can try". I signed up for a quarterly spray, it was the best money I ever spent. There went from being 40+ on the wall next to our patio, to only 1-2 at the most.

Yeah, these are different bugs. Similar in that they are annoying as hell, but different. The brown shield ones are really hard to kill. I have a bug guy that comes quarterly, but this has never helped that. He sprayed and set sticky traps. I have since bought my own spray from amazon and am hoping it works, but am doubtful.

Well that's a bummer! I hope you can find something that works! Is moving or accidentally burning your house down an option?
No, it wouldn't matter if I burned my house down. It seems that everyone is having problems these days. I am not sure if my house gets it more than others. If it does, I would like to know why.

I bought a DustBuster for $20 that is used only to suck the fuckers up. It doesn't solve the problem but it gives me an easy way to get rid of them. DH empties it into the toilet for me. They are the worst and they are starting to come back in my house too I cried when I saw one the other day. They can make themselves practically flat and get in through any small opening. We are going to pull the trigger on new windows in the next year or two and I am really hoping that helps. Our pest control company sprays for them and it gets rid of 60% of them for about a week after the treatment but then they are back in full force until the next quarter.
The best way to keep them from coming into the house is to trim down any bushes close to the house and seal up any cracks or crevices where they can get in. You will probably need to hire a professional for this as they can find their way in at the smallest opening. We used to get them at our old house. They were really bad last year and I found a ton behind our headboard (next to a window) one night and FREAKED! We found a tiny opening near our window and sealed it and the number went down drastically.
You can also make some sort of trap using a soda bottle, dish soap, and a light.
I have good news! I live about 2 hours from stink bug ground zero (Allentown, PA is where they first showed up apparently). Predators in my area have started eating them. They've been around long enough that they're becoming part of the food chain.
