i know the saying is 'never wake a sleeping baby' but we have been waking him every three hours during the day to eat since birth. this was from the hospital nurses and our own pediatrician's advice. but now that he's nearing 7 weeks i'm not sure how long to keep on waking him? we let him go as long as he wants at night, usually around 4 hours though in the past few nights we've had both 6 and 5 hour stretches regularly.
so, if you woke your baby during the day, when did you stop?
We were told the same thing, so we did it and then he just started waking on his own, so we never really stopped. Will not do it this way if there is a next time!!!
If your child is over his birthweight, and otherwise healthy and gaining weight on track, for the love of god let him sleep! Your sanity will thank you!

When Ace (6 weeks) takes a really long nap during the day, I miss him. I feel like I'm being a neglectful mother, by not holding him and letting him sleep. But he is a baby. His body is growing like crazy and he needs rest for that to happen. I wouldn't wake him.
We have been told them same. Wake every 3 hours during the day and 4 hours at night. I have let him go longer during the day (although he hasn't find longer than 3.5 hours anyway) and he has always woken himself within the 4 hrs at night. He was back to birth weight last week. When I asked about waking, they explained the importance of getting 8-10 feeds at this age

My pediatrician said I could stop waking him when he was 3 weeks old and almost back up to his birth weight. He has continued to gain a good amount of weight.
First pedi we went to said to wake to eat every 3 hours until a YEAR!
Hum we switched pedis at 6 days old for other reasons & they said since he was gaining & over birth weight let him sleep. He started sleeping 4 hour stretches at 2 weeks & STTN at 7 weeks.

I can't imagine waking a 1 year old.
I KNOW.... That office was crazy cakes. The on call pedi yelled at me when my 5 day old was screaming for four hours had bloody stool & was covered in rashes. He said " what do you expect me to do about it make an appointment."
We we did with another Dr. At another practice the next day.

You are shitting me. What a jerk. I hope you wrote some nasty (truthful!) feedback on EVERY possible site.
Our pedi instructed us to wake the girls every 3 hours until their 8 week appt. I can't remember what the rationale was as they were back to birth weight at 2 weeks.
DS was five weeks early and they wanted us to wake him every three hours until he hit his due date. I think we continued until six weeks due to his weight gain.
We woke her every 3 hours until she reached her birth weight. Then we woke her every three hours during the day until she started to give us longer stretches at night because she had her day and nights mixed up and we were trying to switch them back.
