I don't post too often, but did post a couple months ago asking opinions on marble for our master bath renovation. Thought I would post an update and progress photos. We're just about there. The vanity countertop was installed yesterday. Now, just need to have the shower trim pieces installed (bench, threshold, etc.), tile grouted, toilet and plumbing fixtures installed then finally the glass for the shower.
It's been quite a process so far. Demo started on July 28. Everything went pretty smoothly at first, until it came time to tile. We did go with the marble, however, our contractor decided to do the tile himself. He is clearly not the best at tile. Took over 2 weeks to do all the tile (it's really not that big of a space), and it really isn't the best in some areas (esp the shower). It's not horrible overall, but I wish he would have brought someone else in to do the tile. Then, the painters he brought in were horrific. After 3 coats (because after 2 it was really the worst paint job I had ever seen - total "picture framing" around the trim, and after the 3rd it was only marginally better), we decided to call it a day with our contractor's painters, and had someone we used in the past come in. Thankfully, fixed it with one coat.
Then, we had an issue with the timing of the stone fabrication, as there was a communication error and we were never in the shcedule as we should have been, so for the last 3 weeks, the bathroom has been sitting "in progress" until the stone could be fabricated. Now that was done, I have been trying to get in touch with our contractor (with no luck) to see when he will finish up the rest. Thankfully, at this point most everything is done and it's mostly finishing touches. I just want my bathroom back!!
Anyway, here are some progress pics. The before is pretty "builder basic" with lots of white (everywhere!!) and brass. We knocked out a small linen closet to expand the shower and demo'd the massively large spa tub, which really opened up the space. Kept the same general foot print, same size vanity, placement of toilet, etc. We did scrape the popcorn ceiling and installed crown molding. Also, installed a new entrance door, and flipped the door swing the other way, which helps with the shower entrance space. It's almost there....
Apparently it is a relatively new model line. Had a lot of issues with the supplier, was originally supposed to be delivered around June 20th (per the supplier), but there was delay after delay. Finally got it around July 25th. Also, my contractor had a lot of issues getting info on how to install. There were no instructions with the actual tub. Also, there were nothing to fasten it to the floor. Since it is acrylic, it's pretty light (around 100 lbs), so it needs to be somehow fastened to the floor. So, my contracter figured something out. It was his first time working with that brand/line, and I don't think he was too thrilled about it. That being said, it looks, really, really nice and is at a great pricepoint.
Originally, I ordered a tub filler from Moen (www.moen.com/weymouth/chrome-two-handle-tub-filler/_/R-CONSUMER%3AS22105?swatch=1). Moen just intruduced a floor mount that mounted the filler between the floor joists, so it is truly freestanding. Unfortunately, the floor mounst were backorder till late August. So, I chose the above Maidstone filler (which was also half the cost of the Moen), which had pretty much the same look, but wall mounted (meaning, there were support braces attaching the floor risers to the wall).
SO much better!! Love the tub area and the larger shower. That will be so much more pleasant. So you took out a closet in favor of a larger shower. Did you gain storage elsewhere or are you just going without?
No, we didn't gain storage anywhere else. We also have another bathroom on that floor that has a linen closet. Also, there is a fair amount of space between the back of the shower and the tub, so I have been think of getting a shelf/storage piece for that space, something that matches the vanity. I think we should be OK with storage, at least I hope so! The shower before was so small that I literally hit my elbows on the doors trying to shampoo my hair. There was no doubt that we were expanding the shower when we remodeled, and I think taking out the closet made the most sense.
Thanks everyone for the positive feedback, it's always nice to hear validation of my choices
Did finally hear back from my contractor, should finish up everything (except the shower glass) on Monday. The glass guy will also be by that day to measure and hopefully that should follow soon after, yay!! Can't wait to enjoy the new shower, I am looking forward to that the most!
