Ours was indoors, but we went with an indoor venue for just this reason. We loved a lot of the beach venues we saw, but we invited over 250 people and the rain backups were not good for that many guests.

I lived in one of the rainiest places in the us so my entire august wedding was indoors. I figured between heat and rain it would be necessary. Sure enough- right as we were heading outside to take photos it started to downpour and rained most the evening.
This was actually a big argument my husband and I had. He wanted to get married outdoors (ETA: Like, in a field. Does he even KNOW me? LOL). I didn't want to have to plan, essentially, two weddings just in case.
IT SNOWED on my wedding day (in March). I was right. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER.

Yes. Our ceremony was supposed to take place in a garden and the reception was in a tent at the same site. We moved the ceremony into the tent because of rain. I'm still a little sad about it 8 years later, lol.
We got married inside because I didn't want to have to worry about this (and HELLO! Texas in May. Nobody wants to be outside for that). And OH! It rained on my wedding day. lol. I do feel you need a back up plan, yeah.
Yep, we had a rain plan. We got married in my uncle's backyard, where they have a substantial roof/overhang. It did mist, but before and after the ceremony, so we were lucky.

I was married in July and we had a backup plan just because it had been a cool year and we weren't going to chance it. We figured we would move everything into the barn if it rained
We had a contingency plan. And on the day of, I'm pretty sure everyone was keeping an eye on the weather radar. It was clear when the ceremony started, but quickly started raining during it, so the officiant sped things up a bit.
There's photos of us walking back down the aisle getting rained on. Thankfully the reception was inside.

So, one of the most epic weddings I have ever been to went down like this. It was at a stunning outside venue in this exclusive community in April, in St. Louis. Three days before the wedding, the temps began to drop and sleet was forecast but the bride would not hear of having it inside. She actually made us do the rehearsal in the sleet. The day of, her dad spent $$$ arranging outdoor heat lamps but she still ended up having to do the ceremony in the tent where the dinner was to be held, like, in front of the chafing dishes, because she was so determined not to make any contingency plans and it was fucking SLEETING.
Then, right as we were doing the cocktail hour, the lights flickered and went out. Someone slid on the ice and hit the transformer for the whole town. The DJ couldn't play, the photographer was fucked and the staff was freaking out, so everything was being served willy nilly, including her cake which got hacked to hell. Then, because there was nothing else to do, everyone hit the bar and got TRASHED. (They had made the unfortunate decision to pay by the drink.) Her brother's wife fell down some stairs and broke her ankle. Half the men there were trying - and failing - to get a generator started. Pretty much anything that could go wrong, did. And poor thing, every anniversary she's had since is totally perfect weather.

We went to an outdoor wedding in late October in cottage country Ontario on the water maybe 2 years ago? Apparently there was no back up plan. It was like 6 degrees Celsius, raining/sleet, and we were all wearing the guys' suit jackets during the freezing ceremony.
The day of, after 5 days of rain, the wedding party went out and bought sheets of (curling) plywood to put down inside the tent on the wet grass for the reception. I felt terrible, but we all ended up leaving at like 8pm as soon as dinner was done. It was sooooo cold, and it took hours to shake the damp from my bones.

Our wedding was inside but there are several outside options at the winery where we got married. It was in the contract we signed that if weather.com was calling for a >30% chance of rain one hour before the start time the ceremony would automatically be moved inside.

Got married last Saturday. Our wedding was held on H's parents 10 acre ranch. We literally had no way to have an indoor plan. an hour before the wedding, you'd have thought a hurricane was coming through. By the time I got to the ranch, the tent had collapsed, table cloths had blown away, centerpieces were destroyed. H and I saw each other, because well...We couldn't really avoid it while trying to salvage what we could. My curls fell because I had gotten soaked. We delayed the ceremony by 30 minutes to 5 pm and the sun beamed through bright as could be (thanks, Daddy!) We were able to get through the ceremony, pictures, and eating before a second storm rolled in. I wasn't worried about this one though, as everyone had pretty much migrated onto the huge front porch. We had music, drinks, and conversation.
However, we were so thrown off by everything that happened, we forgot to put out the guest book, and we even forgot to have our first dance and have everyone give their speeches!
Around 8, most of the "family" went home and the friends stayed for a bonfire, 4-wheeling, and mudding. It was so great. I wouldn't have changed a darn thing!
The most important thing was that my brother (who last year was in a head on car crash at 72 MPH and broke every bone in his body) was able to walk me down the aisle. He had just started walking with a cane 3 weeks earlier and was bound and determined. Meant so much to me.

My sister had an outdoor wedding. We ended up having a rain delay and then having the ceremony after we dried off all the chairs, but there was a tent as well and we could have done it under that if we had to.
Our wedding and reception were both indoors, because I didn't want to deal with having a backup plan.
My first choice venue was outdoors, but we were getting married in April and the indoor plan B was ugly, so we nixed that one. Of course it was sunny and 75 on our wedding day, so it would have worked out perfectly to have it outdoors. Oh well.
