DS1 is 6 and just started playing soccer. I am amazed at what apparently constitutes a "snack" for after the games (you know, when parents are on a rotating schedule to bring them). He's had two games so far, both times it's been a ziploc baggie with multiple items in it. Last night it was a big baggie with a pack of PB cracker sandwiches, bag of mini Oreo cookies, fruit snacks, Tootsie Roll lollipop and a Capri Sun. For a game that was from 5-6pm. Whatever happened to orange slices?
We usually have some sort of cut up fruit for their halftime snack and then goody bag for after the game is more of a treat. Yesterday it was Gatorade, a bag of Famous Amos cookies, goldfish and fruit snacks. I don't know, I guess it's not great but I'd rather do snacks I know they'll eat vs. drop cash on stuff that'll end up in the trash.

We do orange slices at half time. At that age the after game snack would be a juice/Gatorade and a bag of sun chips or cheezits. Occasionally you would have an over achiever mom who would do homemade muffins or homemade granola bars or something.
The older teams don't seem to do snacks of any sort. We have a concession stand that gets hit up after and it all benefits the fields/equipment etc.

This kind of thing made me so mad when DS's teams would do snacks. The parents always had candy, cookies, and chips. We did grapes and cheese sticks. I don't know why all the junk food is necessary. Now he's 9 and his teams don't do snacks anymore.

Last year the parents just did a bag of crackers and some juice. That's probably what I will do this year, too. Yesterday the mom went all out with multiple snacks, but a parent did tell the kids to not expect that next week...lol.
I skip fruit because they attract so many bees. I learned this the hard way last year:/
I was just snack mom yesterday. I did baggies of pirate booty, an apple and a water bottle. Since it was their first game I made them each a sugar cookie shaped like a jersey with their number on it as a little treat. 10-11 am Saturday game
Weird. I guess it depends on the kid and how old they are, but if I gave my kid a Capri sun at 6pm, let alone a lollipop or fruit snacks, I would pay for it for HOURS. I hate snack culture, lol. A friggin goody bag for a soccer bag? When will it end ffs?
Our games are either at 10 or 11 in the morning, and it's hot as fuck for the first half of the season. Yesterday it was hovering around 100 by the end. Those kids really earn the snacks they get after their games, man.
This isn't done in our league. Kids bring their own drink, and leave when the game ends. We've done leagues at the Y and now town soccer and I've only every heard about snacks here. They have practice 5-6. He can go home and have dinner.

This has depended on the sport--soccer they do bags with chips, drink, fruit snacks or cookies, some parents throw in tattoos or toys. Other sports seem to be a bag of chips & a drink. My kids have food allergies, so I don't really like snack.
By the end of Em's soccer season last year, everyone was bringing Munchkins. I was the second snack mom of the season and brought little bags of grapes and peeled clementines (because my kids don't like regular oranges), and only one or two of the kids ate them. :/
She had her first game yesterday, and the snack mom brought watermelon slices. Woo!

Oh, I'm making note of this for my turn as snack mom, minus the sugar cookies 'cuz I'm not that talented.
I love the snack size bags of Pirates Booty from Costco. I stock up on those for our lunches.

I noticed this with DS's kickball team. Baggies full of mini muffins and gummy fruit snacks, and always Caprisun. I took applesauce pouches and cheddar bunnies, which is not perfect, but I figured it was better than the bag of candy he had gotten the week before.

We have a snack at the end. Usually a juice and crackers, granola bar or fruit. I don't mind since things are so chaotic on soccer night. It's basically part of his dinner.

W is only 3.5, but I'm already dreading dealing with the eventual sports snacks. Being in charge of snack for a week at his little school is enough to drive me crazy.

We don't really deal with that too much. For soccer games parents tend to bring some sort of fruit for half time, and a small treat for after, like Goldfish or a small pack of Oreos. It's not always healthy but at least it's not excessive.
I don't get the snack hate, although I agree that candy is unnecessary. My sons football teams used to do fruit at halftime and I didn't like it. It attracts bugs, gets all sticky and then they need wipes and it's an overall mess. I don't think a bag of chips or cookies and some juice is a big deal after they just exercised for at least an hour. If you prefer that your kids eat healthy then that's probably how you feed them regularly. So what's the big deal if they get a fun snack once or twice a week?

I never had snacks during sports as a kid and neither did my daughter.
When I was the president of the athletic association at her school, I shut that snack shit down hard. It's hard enough to try and wrangle kids out of bed to do sports on a Saturday morning, much less having to remember snacks too. FFS, The kids were there for 60-90 minutes. they weren't going to faint from hunger. I blamed it on food allergies and had a dozen parents thank me for eliminating snacks from sports teams.
Did you guys really not have snacks after games when you were younger? I'm honestly just really surprised at the reactions here.
Water, maybe a juice box, and either a homemade treat like a cookie or Rice Krispy treat or one of those mini bags of chips. Never all of the above, though. It was seriously like one cookie per person. If it was hot, we'd get a Popsicle or freezie pop.
I agree that isn't a snack. it's over 30% of a 6-year-old's daily caloric needs, with 55g of sugar.
we didn't get full-on goodie bags when I was a kid. I drank water (but begged for gatorade, lol) and we'd maybe get a granola bar every third game or so.

I didn't play sports when I was younger, but my husband said in all his years of youth sports, all they really had was orange slices, maybe raisins. And peeps had to bring their own water.
Honestly, that snack you described above from your game yesterday seems way excessive to me, especially for games typically scheduled right before lunch. I'd be fine w/ a drink and one of those snacks. Do the kids mow through that all and then not each lunch? No offense intended to the parent who brought it, though, in case it was you. I'm honestly curious!
I don't know if it's different for those with kids in comp soccer in other areas but there are no snacks or drinks for regular games in comp here. If we are at a weekend tournament we will pack lunches but no "reward" snacks.

I had a bunch of 8.5 year old kids (including mine) super pissed off at me last weekend because I refused to supply gatorade for the halftime drink. I got the honest kids drink pouches and water. If you're thirsty enough, you'll drink that. If not, you sure as hell don't need gatorade.
I am part of the problem, though because I did buy prepackaged rice krispy treats for after the game.
One kid had the balls to tell me she didn't like them and wanted another choice.
*edit to add* we also have to make sure there's enough for siblings, so usually enough for 24+ kids. No joke, snack rotation can set you back $20-30.

Travel teams here do not do snacks. Only the rec teams.
