DH and I are in the process of house hunting for our next home (a few miles from the beach); so I'm thinking up on how to decorate them. I'm leaning towards a combo of Coastal Casual and Contemporary.
What do you think of this wood floor? Does anyone have anything similar? Any pros and cons? We're 37/42yo DINKS with a large, unruly dog. We're thinking of putting this on almost all spaces except bathroom areas.
It definitely looks coastal to me. As far as durability with a dog, it isn't the color but the wood and how they finish it that matters. Our first house we had no issues even with a lumber liquidators special. But this house, I don't know what engineered wood they used, but it's crap. Everything scratches it and several boards are popping.
I like that color. Our house has light wood floors, it hides the dust better than dark, but not the black dog hair. Though with a lighter colored dog, it wouldn't be as noticeable.
Believe it or not, you do have to consider the color of your dog ;-)

I love that color. I have always gravited towards dark wood. I love what we have now but I vacuum at least 2x a day because of 2 shedding dogs with light colored hair .
ETA: I promised myself that I have to remember how much I hated vacuuming all the damn time before we build or redo the floors in our next house.
I just bought a new house in a coastal community and want to refinish my floors in that color. I don't have kids but my white doggie sheds a ton and with the last darker floors that I had, I could see EVERY hair on the floor.

Get a robot vacuum. They are seriously life changers and worth every penny.

I love light floors in beachy areas. I think I like the one you posted. My only concern is whether it will hold up design wise or look super trendy in a few years.

I love the look and it comes across as very beachy. I have no idea about durability, but if it were to scratch, I would think the scratches would be less noticeable with a lighter wood color than a darker one.

Our house had/has light oak floors in our kitchen and hallway from front door to the back to the kitchen. I hate them. They are too light but we haven't gotten around to replacing them. We have a rental house that we're looking at a light grayish color for, I like it but this light oak - ick.

My dog sheds his old man gray hair, so maybe it won't be too bad

This is a major concern as well. We wish to stay there forever, but we can never know. So I'm thinking maybe do something more neutral/popular as opposed to this floor which only worked for some people.
I have laminate floors in a similar color and they look really nice. Everyone always comments on how much they like the flooring, it's just different than what you normally see. I like that they don't show dirt easily.

Do you know if the wood has a micro-bevel on the edge? Our previous house we had a medium oak and in our new house we have natural. I don't love the lighter color. The previous owners we not the cleanest people (a few dogs/cats) and in the main areas dirt is trapped in the micro-bevels. I've tried to do a test patch to clean a portion and there is still dirt. Sigh we probably need to sand off the bevel and restain....

Did the house already come installed that way?
The new house, yes. There were a few we noticed during the walkthrough, but couldn't negotiate out in the clothes. We've had a couple more places we've noticed since then.
i think those would look perfect in a beach house!
we have white/light grey tile in our apartment and i'm not a fan of the light floors only because i like lighter colours in furniture/decor, but too much white-grey looks washed out. when we build or buy and i get to choose my floors i'm going for something in the medium-dark category. i need a little more contrast than what i currently have going.
i think those floors would look fantastic with lighter walls and darker furniture. a dark grey or navy blue couch would really ground the room, then i'd layer in beach-y, nautical decor.

I have to check it out again this weekend. Thanks for the tips!
