Last time I had a sore throat I used a fruity halls cough drop that was okay to take. Also, what about just taking a little honey? Honey and hot water if it'll make you feel better, but I'd just take a teaspoon of honey to help coat your throat.
Yeah, my mom used to make hot water, lemon juice (from a bottle) and honey for me when I was sick. I used to cough dramatically in the hopes that she'd make it, lol.
I do drink some tea in moderation though, too. Basic herbal teas from Celest.ial Seasonings including their Honey Vanilla Chamomile and Peppermint.
My OB said that cough drops are fine, as is Robitussin (the pharmacist disagreed, but I was so miserable and desperate that I went with what my OB said). I also used the Cloraseptic throat spray.
I swapped in life savers and other hard candies as often as I could. If I was sucking on something, even if it wasn't a cough drop, I felt much better.
Hot drinks - caffeine free tea, decaf coffee, cider, hot chocolate, hot lemon water with honey.

My OB didn't have a problem with me using any cough drop or Robitussin product (also OK were Mucinex, Benedryl, and Sudafed). I used both Halls & Cloraseptic lozenges.
Unless you're drinking a TON of caffeine (ie more than 200mg daily), you probably don't have much to worry about when having a cup or 2 of tea.
i have a hell of a cough right now. the OB okayed benedryl and claritin to help ease the drainage (which she felt was responsible for the cough/sore throat.
if i have to give my cough drops up i'm gonna die.

FYI - benedryl did shit for my drainage
yeah, i haven't had much luck either!
i've been taking the claritin once a day, but i can't say it's really working. Doc said if it didn't get better by Mon/Tues to call and she'd call in a script for an antibiotic. i don't really to take one, but i'll be PISSED if i'm still coughing like this when i go in to labor!
Well, I have preferred herb based cough drops or years. Those aren't allowed. I am not sure about halls type drops. I plan to research tomorrow at work.
From what I've read, there aren't enough herbs in the riccola's to really do anything unless you ate them all throughout the pregnancy. However better safe than sorry.
I've been through at least 1 bag of Halls since they are the only thing that keep me from choking on post nasal drip during the night.
Redbush tea with honey and lemon. In South Africa redbush tea is called rooibos. It's caffeine free and low in tannins. They give it to babies. It also has a natural anti-inflammatory in it, which helps with the swelling that makes the throat sore.

I LOVE rooibos. If I can drink that, you will officially be my favoritest favorite of all my favorites EVER.
