So what do people think of Ellie's suggestion of a separate recommendations thread? I don't dislike the idea, but it's hard to separate out reviews from other stuff sometimes. Like, I recently tried a new liquid liner. But my "review" of it was buried within my rundown of what I ended up doing for that wedding two weeks ago and included a FOTD. So...yeah. But I'm really sad to have lost the detailed recs on the first few pages of MT 2.0.
I did find an old google doc with most of my recs and rewrote the rest of it...so whatever we decide to do, I'll add mine.
Also - I canceled my ipsy subscription, but apparently not fast enough. Because I got my September bag. ALREADY! It's....just ok. Doesn't make me regret canceling.
Also, who uses the Tarte amazonian clay foundation? I don't... love it. It doesn't blend or cover well with finger application. It's better with sponge application, but I still feel like the coverage is very light, or I need to use a TON of it, which is disappointing with a $30 foundation. Am I doing it wrong?
I use it with the brush that they have. It's one of my favorites. I haven't applied it using anything else though. It does not seem to cover really bad blemishes, but I just dab concealer over the top for those ones. I bought it because a blogger was raving about it, but she did say it works best with their brush and she didn't like it without it.
I get my ipsy bag today and I am excited. They did better this month. Last month sucked ass. I am excited to try the Maybelline stick blush, which is silly because I can buy that anytime lol.

I'm only slightly angry I bought a Beauty Blender, then.

Lol, it's kind of frustrating because it seems like a few foundations have come out now where you need to buy their brush to make it look it's best. I don't want to have to buy a brush every time I try a new foundation.
The only thing I'm excited about in my Ipsy bag this month would be the eyeshadow brush. I'll be cancelling my subscription, I think.
Do it before the end of the month! apparently.
I got: -the sally hanson gel nail polish (in an odd tomato red color) - which I'll try out at least. Maybe it'll be amazing. But I don't actually paint my nails that often and when I do I try to buy 5free stuff...so yeah. -the pacifica liner. looks ok. I'll use it eventually probably. I didnt' open it to swatch it, but it looks like an odd taupe-brown color. Might make a good brow pencil? -be a bombshell smooth criminal powder - this I'm excited to try, but I HATE loose powders, so less excited than I would be. -a lip gloss. I don't really wear gloss. anybody excited about the gloss in the ipsy bag this month is welcome to mine. Maybe if the sample box comes this way I throw it in. Speaking of which...where is that? secretlyevil? -hair mask. eh. I'll try it I guess, but I'm a cheap ass when it comes to my hair so the chances of my repurchasing this are slim to none.
The bag itself this month is pretty cute. Nicer than the last two.
So if I liked gloss, was in the market for a new liner, or didn't hate loose powder, or was more into nail polish this would be a great bag. definitely worth $10 in theory, but not to me.
As much as I like new stuff, I have way too specific of a list of wants to enjoy dropping any amount of my paltry makeup budget on a grab bag of randoms.
I still love Ipsy. It's cheap and fun. I think I would have loved it more BMT 1,2,3 when I owned almost nothing though.
I've had this conversation with a friend who is JUST getting into makeup and is totally overwhelmed with what to try next. I think for someone like her it's perfect because it's new stuff she wouldn't try otherwise. I think it's also fun for somebody who's "need" list is already filled in because new fun things are just fun.
I'm too much in between those two (lots of things I still "need", but I know enough to know almost exactly what I want. I just can't buy it all yet.) to enjoy it really.
Give me a year or so and I'll probably sign back up.

What else are you getting? Last month was teeerrrible for me. I didn't even touch the stuff except for the chapstick, which WTF like that is fun.
I am getting Be a Bombshell powder, blush, Deep conditioning mask, Nourish face cleasner and the Pacifica nail polish.
I am intriqued by the powder and the other stuff will be fun to try out.
I really liked it last month, but I got the UD perversion mascara and that made it totally worth the $10 to me. This month I'm getting the brush, the deep conditioning mask... hopefully this is for hair because my face does NOT need deep conditioning..., a peachy toned lip gloss (probably would have enjoyed the red one more being as it's fall not spring), the NYX eyeshadow, which may be okay depending on color (it looks like I'm getting black.... as if I don't have enough of this shade already) and an eye pencil from Pacifica which, if it's anything like it's eyeshadow will be completely useless.
Sorry if I sound like a Debbie downer today, I am in a horrible mood.
Today's FOTD Face:Jouer moisturizing primer, Jouer luminizing moisture tint, Bobbi Brown corrector, MAC Careblend pressed powder to set, a little Hourglass ambient lighting powder in dim light, Nars Sex Appeal blush. Eyes: MUFE Artist shadows. M-534 all over, I-524 in inner corners and on brow bones, M-536 in crease, I-550 on outer half of lid, M-928 to line. Cover Girl Clump Crusher mascara. Lips: Nyx butter gloss in Tiramisu

yeah, it was neat at first but I think I'd rather spend my $10 a month on something I actually pick out, like a new Revlon balmstain or save it up for my MegaPro/Vice 3 purchases.

Was it TiffanyD? I did like the way it looked, but she had to combine two colors and use their brush, which makes that $30 foundation almost $90 to try and I was like NOPE. lol.

I feel like she does an excessive amount of combining colors that probably isn't needed.

::hangs head in shame:: On my kitchen table waiting for me to ship it to...ummmm...tacoflavoredkisses. I finally got a new mailer this week so I'm so much closer than I was.
ETA: And the mailer I got for steph's wnw palette is ginormous so now I'm thinking a regular envelop with some bubble wrap will do.
Well I was going to include Saturday but my pic looks horrible and slightly deranged. So this yesterday going out for lunch with H's family for his birthday.
Lips - Mac Pink Plaid Cheeks - HG Diffused Heat Eyes - UD Jilted all over and Urban in the outer v/crease. Tarte Fingerpaint Art along the outer V and Rose Champagne to blend and Handpicked flowers in the inner corner. It took me awhile to be happy with it so I just kept messing with it. Lined with Nyx gel liner.

Oh, I swatched in store and I think I nailed the color I need, so I wouldn't worry about needing to mix colors (some lines are better at color variety than others, but I think the Tarte colors work for me). But my face still looks shiny and not at all smooth and flawless when I use it.

Maybe something like that? Otherwise, i think if the regulars don't mind folks asking the same questions that had been asked previously, then it's not a big deal for people to come in and ask redundant questions. Maybe just tag or quote people when they ask for a rec so it doesn't get buried in the thread?
Isn't the tarte Amazonian clay what brightest bulb uses in that tutorial where she shows how she covers her acne?
It was. Amazonian clay is what I use - it has the best coverage for me so far. Usually I apply most with my fingers and blend a little bit with a sponge if I need it. I don't have their stippling brush although maybe I should get it.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

We have this already. ::looks at stickied thread::

Does anyone have experience with Too Faced customer service? I bought the Bonjour Beautiful set when it was on sale for $18. The lip palette that was supposed to come with the set was not in the box when I received my order. I emailed them on Thursday night about it, and have not received a response. Am I too impatient?

no, you are not too impatient. I would contact them again.
Can someone walk me through blush? I haven't used it in 10+ years because I think it makes me look clownish. Recommendations (I have medium-light skin with warm tones) and links to application techniques appreciated.
Tarte Exposed appears to be universally adored. It is a good, easy color that will look nice on lots of skin tones, and it is fairly subtle.
You should also check out makeupgeek.com for their blushes. They are cheap and reportedly excellent.
I really like the Real Techniques blush brush, but I found it a little overwhelming at first since it is large and fluffy. Don't be discouraged, it gets easier.
For those who haven't had success with Ipsy, are you reviewing the products you get? Ipsy has gotten better for me over time, but I am religious about reviewing what I like and what I don't. As in 'Don't send me this shit again', or 'WTF is this color'. I give a lot of feedback and almost always appreciate 3 of the 5 items. This time I like all 5.
