Okay, I've been told that it's okay to just jump in with questions without going back and reading. I need help.
My skin is terrible. If anyone has any recommendations on how to not look like a pimply-faced teenager at the ripe old age of 30, that would be great (although I feel like I've tried everything). But what I really need is a foundation rec.
I have OILY skin. Like I always see people say they have super oily skin, and their skin in desert-like compared to mine. It's crazy oily and it's blotchy and just overall terrible. And then I have cystic acne along my jawline, which can get pretty bad. So I need a foundation that's good for oily skin and will cover up all of my problems. I don't know if I need full coverage? Or just medium coverage with a good concealer for my acne?
One the rec of a youtuber, I went to the mall yesterday and tried the Estee Lauder Doublewear Foundation, and the lady at the counter was the rudest/dumbest person I have ever come in contact with and she just pissed me off so much. I did leave with a sample (that is not even remotely close to skin tone... I don't know what she was thinking), but I was not pleased.
I will happily answer any questions y'all have so you can give me better recommendations. Or I can post of picture of myself if that would help.

Welcome! I have the opposite problem (dry skin) but I think people here really like Hourglass foundations and primer for oily skin. It's $$ but might be worth it if it helps your issue.

racegrrl714 has seemed to have found a good make up routine for her oily skin.
By the way, I am going to give you all an Ole Henriksen update since today is the last day of the sale.
This set is amazeballs. It has been four days, and already my skin looks clearer, color looks more consistent, blemishes are fading, and pores seem to be smaller. There are no dry patches. It feels really soft and smooth. The containers are small, but it seems to be a lot of product for the money. I imagine all will last a month, and most will last much, much longer.
The only product of the seven in the kit I'm not in love with is the eye gel, as it's not terribly moisturizing. Maybe it helps the lines though? In case it does work, I'm still using it, but I started using a bit of extra eye cream along with it last night.
I have been doing one other thing differently from the steps suggested, and that's skipping the morning application of Sheer Transformation, since that, plus the Truth Revealed Cream, plus my CC cream seems like overkill. So I do ST at night. I will probably make one more switch, and that will be to stop using the red tea wash at night and go back to an oil based cleanser, like my Josie Maran argan oil face wash, because that did a better job of getting the remnants of whatever eye make up is left after I wipe it off with coconut oil. I love the red tea wash in the morning though.
Has anyone else started using theirs? Are they as bowled over by the magic as I am?
Thank you for the recap. I just ordered mine on Friday so hopefully it should be coming soon!

I use Cerave foaming facial cleanser with a Clarasonic at night and just the cleanser in the morning. I use Mario Badescu drying lotion or buffering lotion on my acne, depending on the kind of day I'm having. For moisturizer, I switch it up sometimes but it's always some version of an oil-free moisturizer (right now it's a Garnier one at night and an Olay one w/ SPF during the day). I've been using that combo for a while.
My acne is all hormonal, as far as I can tell. I don't have it anywhere else on my face, besides my jawline. I've tried a million things from the dermatologist to clear it up, and the only thing that ever helped was the pill (but we're TTC right now).

I have oily skin. I use Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil control moisturizer daily. I also have large pores, so I use Benefit's Porefessional primer. Primer is an essential step for me. go over my primer with a translucent powder. Currently, I'm using It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores and love the finish.
After that, I use Estee Lauder Double Wear Light. You can get it at Sephora as well, and they generally have good customer service. I won't buy it in a department store. I typically apply it with a Beauty Blender for best coverage. I have really great results with this foundation. A lot of foundations would slide right off my face because my skin was so oily, but this one really seems to stick around.
I conceal blemishes after I apply my foundation. It does a pretty good job of covering discoloration and minor stuff, so I really only have to go back and target a few areas.
I've tried Hourglass and it was okay, but Double Wear Light is a little more affordable and gets the job done well for me.

sicilygirl I have combo skin, not oily, but I have hormonal cystic acne like whoa. The only thing that works for me is a rx retinol and benzoyl peroxide regimen. I will never try to leave my dermatologist again. So if you're not seeing someone,I highly recommend that first. Makeup is so much more fun when I'm happy with my skin. (hope this doesn't sound preachy!!)
I use drugstore foundation, and I was happy with Covergirl 3-in-1 foundation when I was breaking out badly. I also love Neutrogena skin clearing foundation. Slightly less coverage than the CG.
pixy0stix and anyone else who has attended a Rouge event -- what happens when you show up? Do they have some kind of registration list? Do you just flash your card and they let you in?
I procrastinated on RSVPing for the Rouge event on Wednesday night and now most of the locations in the area are booked. So I booked a spot at the far away location listed just after the one closest to me. I'm wondering what will happen if I just show up at the one closest to me. I figure I can just pretend to be surprised at my mistake if they call me on it. Because I don't care enough to drive to the far away one, and I'm annoyed that they limit attendance.

WWPCEAMT do...the first thing I bought since the inception of the makeup thread is IT Naturally pretty. But...I don't like it. I keep trying to like it and everytime I use it I'm disappointed. I just can't seem to get it to work for me. Either the colors don't blend or they don't show up or they blend altogether in a muddy mess. I probably bought it in July and started out wanting to like it and blaming its poor performance on everything else (primer, base shadow, brushes). So I'm well out of the 60 day window at Ulta.
So, would you return it at this point or just accept that it's not the best palette and keep it?

At mine they checked the registration print out with everyone that had responded.
OK. I think I will just show up and see what happens. I definitely do not care that much to drive out of the way, but if they don't let me in, I'll just go to the nearby BevMo and buy things so the trip won't be a waste.

Hi! Yes I have some seriously oily skin. I don't have a great skin care routine down yet but I use a cleanser by cetaphil made for oily skin... can't remember the name of it at the moment but it's in a white bottle with a purple pump. I have the same line's moisturizer but I like boots expert oil controlling moisturizer better. my full oil controlling makeup routine: Cover fx concealer (I used to have bad cystic acne. Still get one or two here and there but the only thing that helped get rid of most of them was going off hormonal b/c. Now I mostly use concealer to cover dark red marks left by my cpap mask. ) Dr Brandt pores no more primer NYX blotting powder (or too faced cocoa powder foundation) Hourglass immaculate foundation A light dusting of setting powder... love my pumpkin and poppy glow powder in celestial.
I use the NYX blotting powder for mid day touch ups too.
I found that In the summer the above routine is just too heavy. So on warm days (or when I just don't have the time) I use too faced cocoa powder foundation with my pumpkin and poppy powder and just deal with having to do a few more mid day touchups

I'm an oily slick. Legit oil slick
I use Paula's choice products. Acne cleanser, skin balancing moisture gel. All amazing. You can get sample sizes and request recommendations via customer service.
Aczone gel (I use it only on my chin) as it's my biggest problem spot, cystic acne. It's a prescription. I use PC moisture gel on the rest of my face. Dermatologist told me to be as gentle as possible (no scrubbing, no toners, no clarisonic) to get my skin to heal. I was using Mario badascu and my dermatologist told me the ingredients are harsh, and no wonder my skin was breaking out. Cetaphil, cerave and those kinds of products are also gentle enough
Jane Iredale pressed foundation so either cover fx blemish control primer or smash box blemish control primer. I can't use liquid foundation. It makes my skin worse
I've heard a lot about Paula's Choice. I think I might go ahead and try that out, at least the sample sizes. Do you get enough to use it for a decent amount of time and figure out if it really works for you?
I'll check out the Jane Iredale foundation too. Thanks!
Yeah, I don't use the Clarasonic on the area I'm broken out. The woman at the Estee Lauder counter I went to yesterday told me I needed to use my Clarasonic on my acne and be really vigorous "to really scrape out all that bad stuff that's in there." Oooookay. Thanks for that awesome advice.

Thanks for this info!
If I buy any Estee Lauder, I will definitely get it form Sephora. Unfortunately, there's not one in my town so I had to go to Dillards to check out the colors. I was quickly reminded of why I hadn't bought makeup there since middle school. Ugh.

I do need to go back. The wait is always so long for every dermatologist in my town, so I get frustrated. And the last time I went was a terrible experience, but that's been a couple years.

I'll look in to some of these products! I would love something light like you mentioned because it's super hot and humid here most of the year. I've never heard of Pumpkin and Poppy, but I'll check it out. Thanks!
When I first ordered the trial sized items of the acne line it lasted a good 2 - 3 weeks, if not longer. Traditional sample sized in the small packets will last 2 - 3 applications.
Jane Iredale will send samples too, but not of the foundation in the compact, which is truly the best.
If your skin doesn't improve I'd really recommend a derm.
Good to know. I think I'm going to order that then. Thanks!

Pumpkin and Poppy is an indie makeup brand with stores on Etsy and Artfire. Their inner glow powders are supposed to be dupes for Hourglass's ambient lighting powders. Pixy already had the ambient lighting palette so she bought the P&P powders and did a good comparison. They are fairly good dupes, but I think the P&P powders ended up having a bit more shimmer than the Hourglass ones. Of course the P&P ones are $11-ish each and the individual Hourglass ones are $45 (the palette of 3 is $58.) My H and I have decided we want to build a house in about a year, so unless I win the lottery soon, I will probably be sticking with the P&P powders for now! LOL
That's three makeup bags in there btw. The only thing I actually bought was the Chocolate Bar (gift), the BM ready foundation, and BM foundation brush. The rest is freebies.
