DH and I had a new fence installed almost 3 years ago and for the past 2 years we've been trying to stain it. We've gotten half way done and it's hell. We're doing it by hand though with a brush and it's taking 2 coats. DH tried to talk me into a sprayer and it just wasn't worth it (price and quality). We at least have the sides our neighbors look at done it's the inside that's not. Something comes up or we get lazy (or the weather is too humid, rains etc) and that's why it's not done. It'll take at least a full day for me to finish it by hand and DH is out of town for the next week and I told myself I'm going to work on it (in reality I don't want too).
If you were to hire someone who would you hire - a general contractor or an exterior painter? Or would you just suck it up and do it yourself? From talking with a few folks it would be at least $250 which seems really high for what's left. (there's 15 sections each about 5 feet long and the fence is 4 feet high, picket style).

I personally would suck it up and do it. In my area painters or contractors start at 35 bucks an hour, which I'm not willing to pay. I'd either try to find a teenager who was willing to do it for cheap, or just get it over with. Blast the radio, get it done, and then go treat yourself to a pedicure with the money you saved by doing it yourself!

If I were to hire someone, I'd hire a painter. Seriously, you need to have a talk with yourself. You can be too lazy or you can be too cheap, but you can't be both if it's ever going to get done. So choose.
