So is all this parking space saving only an issue in the winter then?
Apparently not. One of my neighbors has now blocked off the whole area in front of his house. In true Hawaii fashion this is done by attaching a boat line from a trailer hitch on the pickup truck to the trash can. This is new, and i don't understand it because there are tons of cars on the street even though most people have at least a partial driveway.
Carports here are for the outside fridge, lathe family meals, washing machines...
IME, yes although sometimes you run into people who get possessive of the spot directly in front of their house or something.
I don't care if I haven't had to put effort into securing the spot.
The old lady in the building next to ours used to double park her car religiously any time of year. If there was a spot that could fit two cars, she'd park in the middle of it. Since she was old, she was also home all the time and would come out of her house and move her car in the middle of the goddamn day if the car in front or behind her left and she could take up two spots. She drove a Neon.
My mom yells at people who does this. Like...will see somebody on her street parking in the middle of two spots from her bedroom and will yell out the window, "MOVE UP, YOU AREN'T IN THE SUBURBS!"
