I have read about the deva cup smell from just normal use. It's the reason I refuse to try one. heh
I can't speak in defense of the Diva Cup in particular, but I want to defend menstrual cups in general because as of about 40 hours ago, I am officially a SoftCup convert. It's not quite the same as a Diva Cup. They're disposable either after each use (up to 12 hours) or per cycle if you get the reusable kind, so there's no time for a smell to actually build up on the cup itself. And they're worn way up around your cervix like a diaphragm, not like the DC which is held in place by the walls of your vagina a bit further down.
I am so so so glad I tried it. I am LOVING this so much more than tampons. My periods are very light, in fact on all but maybe a day and a half even a light tampon would come out partially dry. And light tampons are so small (for my cavernous vag) that I would occasionally have spotting/leaking around it even if the tampon wasn't fully saturated, UGH.
No more pulling out dry tampons!
Tampons are the devil. I used SoftCups for years before I finally decided to try out a DC, and I think in the long run I preferred the SoftCups, but they are so expensive and cheapness won out.
I am so glad not to have periods anymore. Not because they would gross me out, it was just a PITA. I don't think I would have liked a DC, though. The thought of pouring it out turns me off.

do you guys ever worry that some day when youre pulling out a tampon, a mouse is actually going to come out, and you'll be stuck holding it there, by it's tail wondering if it's going to clog the toilet if you flush it? or a goldfish? it can't be just me.
Look, periods are not gross, it's part of life. While I have had my own Diva Cup issues, I don't find them gross, or smelly, neither are tampons. They are all better options than bleeding on yourself.
Honestly, when I had a period I always flushed them. The only time I had clogged pipes was when tree roots grew into the pipes. With all we can do now, you'd think they would have tampons that would disintegrate. Schooled.
You sterilize the diva cup after every use and use the diva wash. Mine doesn't smell. It's going on three years now but I will be replacing it next year.
I do not get any blood on my fingers or nails or anything. You pull it out by the stem or the bottom of the cup and dump. Unless you are shaking the cup and tilting it at an angle (not possible inside the vagina), there won't be spills. Don't pull on the diva cup with all the force. Get it as close to the exit as possible and then pull gently ONLY AFTER breaking the suction.
I also love that I can put it in when my period is expected. No surprises!! #divacupforlyfe
I converted to the DC a few months ago, and even though I still sometimes have trouble getting it to "seal" when I put it in, I'm never going back to pads and tampons again.
I don't get how this (made up)story would turn anyone off to using one...y'all know that would happen if you left pretty much ANYTHING in your vag for 2 weeks, right?
Please enlighten. I seriously haven't heard that before.
It is terrible for your plumbing. They don't disintegrate, so they can just sit there and accumulate and clog your pipes.
And then one day you will come home from work to find that your toilets have backed up onto your front lawn that is now littered with toilet paper and tampons. I have not flushed one since.
I've always flushed my tampons. I'm a rebel like that.
I tried the diva cup 2 months ago. I leaked a lot, but then I figured out what was wrong, so I corrected it. Last month I had to use pads b/c I had a yeast infection. It was torture. I cannot believe people willingly choose that option.

I had to use them after my colp and I have never been so cranky and uncomfortable. There's a reason I learned how to pee on the toilet, so I didn't have to wear a freaking diaper. "Ultra thin" my ass.

You don't get any blood on your fingers? What am I doing wrong? Even if just a dribble, there's always SOMEthing on my hand/fingers. It's the main reason I won't change it in public- it can get messy. But yes, I agree #divacupforlyfe
Don't pull it out with a pop and don't wait till the cup is filled to it's brim. If it's full, I can see how it can spill as you are pulling it out.

How the heck do you know if it full?
I usually empty once in four hours on the first day, so I have it down to a routine, lol. But the cup also loses it's seal a tiny bit when it passes the 3/4 the mark. I can feel that when it does. So it's like my warning mark.
