DS got the green light today for a second round of tubes. The first lasted over three years and he's been struggling with fluid and EIs ever since they came out almost a year ago. He also has a 40 dB hearing loss in both ears that appears to be due to the fluid and not the ear nerves.
At the appt the ENT said he will take a scope and look at his adenoids while he's under and suspects they'll need to come out given his symptoms.
If you've had this done, what has the recovery been like? He said easier than tonsils but I want to be prepared.
J had his removed this summer. He was congested from 6mo old on. Literally, every single day. They did an x ray and saw that his adenoids were enormous so we had them removed with his tube replacement this summer. The recovery wasn't bad at all. He was basically back to himself within a day or two. They had told us up to five or six days. We did give him advil for pain.
Because he was under anesthesia for much longer this time he was pretty woozy and wobbly on his feet that first day. So we made sure someone was always with him when he got up. He also would wake up with massive amounts of snot all over his face and covering his sheets for a few days. It was an incredible amount. This was from a combination of the anesthesia and everything draining. But it only lasted a few days.
It was absolutely the best thing we could have done for him. He can actually breathe now! The poor kid was so stuffy and congested before. We could never tell when he had a cold because it was always like that.

@awinter how old is you son? Did you see speech improvement? He has become so nasal and his enunciation seems to have declined. He's 4.5 and I suspect the stuffiness plus hearing bring off has contributed to more "what did he just say" and "I don't understand" comments from friends and family.

My DS1 had another set of tubes + adenoid and tonsillectomy so I can't really comment without the tonsillectomy part which I'm assuming was the most difficult recovery wise. I will say the end result has been wonderful. His snoring decreased, hearing improved, etc. etc. Good luck!

He is 27 mo. We noticed a drastic change within a day or two. He had started pronouncing words like owl as owlie or doctor was doctie etc. This was immediately back to normal. I really think you will see a vast improvement especially since he has noticeable hearing loss right now. The way they hear words has a big impact on their pronunciation.
