I hate that I'm a total one-trick-pony, but there it is. I just need to vent for a sec.
This kid is KILLING ME lately. I should be grateful, because I know ppl deal with colic and reflux etc that are prob much worse, but this gas is insane. I was at wit's end and asked the pedi if I could try the otc gas drops even though he's so young. She said sure, that was fine. OMG HUGE MISTAKE. Before he was wailing every 10mins, even while he slept. But he was at least burping ok. After one dose of the drops? He is so so much worse. His poor tummy is ROCK hard, he is inconsolable, and it is physically impossible to get him to burp. So between the wailing (nonstop for the last 4h except when eating) and not burping after eating, he now will have a ton MORE air in there for later/tomorrow. Awesome. My head is fucking killing me from the screaming in my ear and I'm exhausted. Guys, he screamed himself hoarse! I didn't know babies xould even DO that. I just got him to eat enough that he passed out. I know I should burp him but (q) I know I won't get anything out of him, and (b) that would wake him up and restart the screaming, and I just can't... I don't even want to risk getting up to put him down so I can go to bed because there's a good chance he'll wake up.
Tl; dr: My baby is killing me loudly with his song and I'm a big whiner. And gas drops can kiss my ass.
Try Colic Calm gripe water, it's weird because it's black but it works. We are dealing with major gas (actually due to food intolerance so it's getting better) but this stuff is saving my life.
I'm sorry you're dealing with this though. I definitely get it. My poor little guy really struggles sometimes and it just sucks, hugs!

Bicycle legs?? I had a gassy baby and don't think anything really worked (my memory of that godawful time is bad as I think I tried to repress them). He just eventually got better on his own after a few weeks. I did remember him being really hard to burp Hang in there! Can your DH help you out tonight?

Ditto gripe water. Are you giving the gas drops before or after feedings? I found that if I gave them before a feeding, they helped her burp much better. How old is your baby again? I know around 2-4 weeks old, no matter what you do, the gas seems to be the worst. Hugs!

Oh, I'm sorry, Fasthands. Try allll the burping positions (including sitting baby facing you and wiggling side to side), laying flat and sitting up slowly. Baby's chin your hand and firm pats/rubs on back. Massage tummy in a clockwise motion.
Sorry if you've already tried these - L gets gassy, too, and has gone hoarse . I hope you both get some rest soon!

I'm sorry. This is such a hard phase. DS3 was so gassy he couldn't sleep unless I was holding his legs so his knees pushed to his belly. Babies are the worst (and somehow the best all at the same time!).

I am sorry. Poor thing. I remember bicycle legs working, as well as massaging the tummy. I laid my hand flat across his tummy, and massaged down towards his bum. It was like a sliding motion from top to bottom to push the gas out.
Thanks guys. I've tried a good bit of what's been mentioned above, but definitely not all, so I'll add those to the repertoire.
To answer the Qs, he'll be 4 weeks on Thursday. I gave him the gas drops just before a feeding (EBF so far).
I actually got a burp out of him a bit ago and he's sleeping. I'm really hoping this is a good sign (aas opposed to him still feeling like shit but just exhausted to the point of collapse. Lol).
Yes, someone above mentioned the Gerber soothe probiotics, they did wonders for us at that age. We are just wading out of this age, and it was so hard, but there is an end in sight, I promise!
Also, since you EBF, we had this issue and a lot of it was due to my overactive letdown. I didn't have a overactive supply necessarily, but it came so fast in the beginning for him every time that it was causing stomach upset. At any rate, hang in there. The first couple of months are the worst.

I'm sorry you guys are having a hard time. You might want to wait until he has a bit more head control but putting Bea in the airplane position, basically holding her up tummy down with my palms in her stomach, was a very reliable way to make her fart when she was little. I'm kind of sad it doesn't work anymore, it was funny.

Hang in there, it will get better. C was also pretty gassy as a baby. When he was 7 weeks he was on antibiotics for an ear infection and I took probiotics to help avoid diarrhea (which worked) but it made his gas so much worse. His has was in the moderate range, but I had a friend whose daughter had terrible gas and they used a Happi Tummi with great success. They would put it on and she would just toot and toot. Worth a shot! I hope things ease up for you soon.
Ugh, I feel for you. We've had a bunch of gas related meltdowns in the past few weeks as well. It sucks. I try to burp often while Bfing if I notice she's writhing trying to get the gas out. I also pin and tuck her legs up by her belly and loudly shush right in her face/ ear. It seems to comfort her a bit. You've tried swaddling up real tight, right?
How awful for both of you! Youtube has some great videos on tummy massages to help relieve the pressure. They helped my son so much. I hope you find relief soon.

I do think that forceful letdown could be paet of it. I've started block feeding and even pumping foe just a few secs before feeding him, so we'll see if that helps.
Thank you so much for all of the suggestions and links!
You can try laying him on his left side, his back to your stomach. This can get the gas moving. You can also massage his lower tummy to help move things along.
